Well, besides the fact that you get no backwards compatibility, have to get a memory card to save games, and even then don't get access to XBox Live downloadables. Not to mention the fact that if developers were assured that all 360s would have HDs, they would be able to rely on them for a number of things, not just caching. But yeah, I'm sure all of those are minor problems.

Moreover, how many Wii-owning gamers are still satisfied with the console now that the hysteria over it is starting to wear off? The sales of the Wii don't really say much about gamers' tastes, especially since they're a mere fraction of the sales of the PS2, or even of the XBox and GameCube.

As for your argument concerning the PS2's processing power, I would submit that the PS2 wasn't nearly as weak as the Wii is by comparison. Though the PS2 was clearly less capable graphically than the other two systems, this was accepted as a natural consequence of coming out a year earlier, and most people considered it to be a minor problem and an easy tradeoff in exchange for a better game lineup. The Wii has none of these excuses to fall back on.

Seriously, I don't see FF13 on the 360 having nearly the impact in Japan as some people would like to believe unless Square decided to go 360-exclusive, which it has no reason to do. And I don't think the added sales in the West would be enough to make up for whatever big bucks Sony is giving it. I think people are making way too much of the simple fact that FF13 isn't officially PS3-exclusive yet. It's almost like how Sony can't say that the PS3 is going to get a price drop by the end of the year, even though pretty much everyone knows that it's going to happen.

And both of those games still required his approval, not to mention the fact that both FF7 and FF9 were the fleshed-out results of stories written by Sakaguchi. Sakaguchi's involvement with the series most certainly did not end with FF6.

I know you, like many other fanboys, lash out at the later FFs because you don't like the idea that you might be massively overrating FF6 (i.e. the idea that you don't have good taste), but that doesn't give you an excuse to ignore reality.

Then the good companies take the parts of those things that they like and implement them, hopefully improving them in the process. We all know that the only reason that Sony took rumble off of the Sixaxis controllers was because of their legal problems with Immersion. Now that those have been settled, Sony can put it back in. Neither do demos; even if we assumed that every game has one, oftentimes a demo is much worse or much better than the game that it represents. As for blog opinions, those in themselves are basically reviews, though usually not very good ones unless you have a good idea of the taste of whoever's writing them.

What goes a long way towards making reviews pointless is GameFAQs. No, not the reviews on there; they often suck. I mean the FAQs themselves. A good FAQ will tell you most of what you want to know about the game in great detail in the first few sections, often without spoiling the plot in the process. The only problem is that FAQs require time to be written, time that simple reviews don't need.
