Anyways between the "lazy bum" and the lack of suggestion as far as firewalls, it's obvious that you're making assumptions which I would personally be offended by. Then again I'm blathering on when it's not my person I think has been attacked, which is rather pointless. Hey at least I explained myself =p

  17. Driving while wearing headphones on Comfortable Stealth Headphones? · · Score: 0

I'd like to thank everyone who has pointed out how stupid I am, and how illegal and dangerous driving with headphones can be. Trolls.

While driving and listening to headphones CAN be dangerous and is illegal in SOME (not most), states, I'd really rather not have my intelligence insulted.

I've worked as a valet for a a long time, and I do my job well. I have never even come close to damaging a car in the slightest. I'm one of the best and fastest valets where I work, and I think I do a hell of a job serving customers. There is alot of downtime in between parking and bringing back cars, especially at big events where everyone is coming in at once, and leaving all at the same time. It's great to listen to my mp3 player when I have nothing to do, but I still feel rude if customers see the wires (although I could pass it off for a 2way or cell headset). Also, one of my superiors, a particularly shortsighted and moronic fellow, would have an attitude similar to you self-righteous assholes in regard to the legality and safety of my using the headphones on the job. As far as actually driving with headphones in, if I do, it's when I don't have to drive far, or in traffic, to park or bring up the car. Also, I only wear one headphone while driving, ever, so that I can still hear what's going on around me. Maybe you can't drive like that, but that's why you're not valets.

So, if you think my question is dumb and I should have used google (which I did use before asking), fine, I'm sorry for asking, but back off with the personal attacks. Trolls.

btw if you are one of the people who posted these remarks: you are probably also the type of person whose car I would fart in before I brought it back to them, because they suck.

  24. Blah on Knock, Knock: Information Pollution Is Here · · Score: 3, Interesting

Nielsen is respectable not only because of the clarity of his arguments but because he also cites empirical evidence, rather than just complaining.

    But he is just complaining!

From the article: "It is naive to believe that IM is the answer to the information overload that's ailing e-mail. Continue current trends a few years and most people will get so much IM that they will have to tune it out to get any work done."

This is the problem he's trying to address it would seem, and his solution is a nice pretty control panel that does everything for him. Now this is obviously a problem, as many many other people have pointed out, but what is Nielsen doing about it? Whining that someone else should write a program apparently. If he believes this control panel is the end-all-be-all solution he should write it and try to sell it, but I'm not buying it. Until some public key standard ala PGP is made idiot proof and seamless enough for the average suburban housewife to use, consumers and big media will keep complaining, imho.

  25. Re:Use solar, wind, hydro for what they're good fo on Solar-Powered Plane to Fly Around the World · · Score: 1

If you look at how much energy we use vs. how much renewable energy is available, it looks like a no-brainer to switch. The problem is that renewables are typically unavailable when, where and as desired. If there's a solution, it will begin with using the sun, wind, water and whatnot when they're working and only fall back to stuff like petroleum when (nighttime, dry season, calm conditions) and where (long-haul driving, northern climates in winter) the other stuff isn't available.

This could and should already be happening, but the real dictators (the few immensely rich people who essentially own everything on earth) obviously don't want it to while there is still money to be made from oil, etc. These same people own almost all the media. Two plus two.. God Bless America LOL.

from PR Watch: "Topics such as energy conservation have been noticeably missing from public discussions of strategies needed for America to achieve energy self-reliance. Patriotism and self-sacrifice may be the rhetoric of the day, but apparently self-sacrifice cannot be allowed to include giving up gas-guzzling SUVs."

    Just quit buying it.
