I thought Batman originated as a dark vigilante and only turned fluffy with the arrival of Robin, when comic book makers began catering to younger boys.
Kingpin was a Spidey villain first. He moved to Daredevil when DD needed a nemesis. However, Kingpin cannot appear in a Spider-Man movie because the character rights are tied up from the Daredevil movie.
For me, my own domain wouldn't solve anything. I'd forget to pay to keep it another year (or not have money on hand when the bill came due) and it would fall to a domain harvester. At least with CJB.net I know if I don't pay for fifteen months, I can still keep my address.
Perfect solution? Of course not -- but I trust CJB.net a hell of a lot more than I trust Dave W(h)iner.
Which is why redirect URLs are handy, especially for cheapskates like me. I host my website on various free services, but I've kept the same CJB.net URL for some time now. That's what I link to, that's where people go even if I move to another domain (so long as I update the forwarding, of course).
It doesn't matter how many of your moms are using FireFox, if her bank site only works with IE then she she will only use IE.
I use IE 6 for my online classes (because they block other browsers) and Opera 7.5 for everything else, including my online banking. Some people will see that IE blows and will not use it for a single pageview more than they have to.
Then again, I read Slashdot, which means I'm not exactly Johnny Average Websurfer either.
That's been my plan for months. I have a paid LJ account, so now I just need money to buy decent PHP-enabled hosting so I can install Magpie RSS.
LiveJournal also has (for paid users) an option to use a separate style for "embedding" into a site (using a custom view), but I haven't looked into it. To me, the point of embedding is to no longer have "livejournal.com" hanging in the URL.
I've heard that too. Never got it to work, but I disable advanced features.
Google has a way of indexing ridiculous things (guestbook signings and things) while completely overlooking any actual content I place online. It's amusing as hell.
It works fine for me on Opera 7.23 on Win 98 and XP. You do have to accept a bunch of cookies required for login (and sometimes the link to get into Premium is far from obvious), but it works fine.
No spoilers that I'm aware of, just some great lines. If you play again and want to avoid getting stuck, you might check out the unofficial Infocom homepage -- they have online InvisiClues to help you out.
