We were in creditor protection (Canadian version of Chapter 11 Bankruptcy), and the owner asked me to essentially spy on the Court appointed monitors and send him any email they sent or received when they were on site and using our computer systems. Thankfully, I had the presence of mind to know how wrong that was, and went to the Accounting controller to inform him of that request. In the end the courts were not told of his transgressions as that would have caused him a pile of trouble (he most probably would have been fired from his own company), and the accounting controller talked a bit of sense into him.
Surprisingly intelligent, yes, but it completely ignores the fact that a technician found evidence that he was producing child porn, only to find that he disassembled his setup and formatted his hard drive the next day. The ruling really is a mixed blessing. Ruling that cached data does not constitute possession is a good thing, but quashing the search warrant based solely on that point was a horrible thing to do due to the rest of the evidence.
all an online retailer has to do is open up a small sale office at their warehouse where people can order and pay for products by ID/SKU. Voila! Instant Brick and Mortar store. Hell, setting up a lemonade stand in the warehouse parking lot would qualify as a brick and mortar store as long as you charge VAT.
is to start an advertising campaign in Asia about how they are a "delicacy". You can be guaranteed that their population will be well under control within two years.
- If you are in salary, then there is an expectation of being on call. How you work out the benefits of being on call (flex time, on call stipend) is between you and your employer.
- If you are a contractor, you are paid by the hour and all work, regardless of whether it is in the office or at home gets billed. you can maintain some flexibility with this (ie: don't charge travel time, charge at a reduced rate for things you are learning etc).
The employer can't have its cake and eat it too. There needs to be a middle ground. If they are refusing to budge, then find employment elsewhere. Its always easier to launch into a job job when you are already working so get your resume updated and start looking.
That is irrelevent. I suspect that a vast majority of Fedora users use standard non root accounts, and only use root for doing system maintenance or installing packages. To allow a non root user to in essence do root commands without prompting for a password just begs to be exploited. the risks that this default setup exposes far outweigh any benefits that may be gained. Is it really that hard to prepend your command with sudo?
Regardless of how well they are decked out, always start with a "pilot project". Start small for a short period to evaluate real world performance of both their equipment and their tech support. We currently have a pilot project in place to evaluate a datacentre for outsourcing our compute requirements. We have learned that while they have exceptionally good equipment in place, their responsiveness and ability to provision is highly questionable.
Further to that, now that he's no longer at SCO, no one knows where he is going to land. Now that he has a taste for FOSS blood, he might end up at another company whose sole business model is litigation.
how can anyone even begin to think about committing code from a Chinese company into the mainstream linux kernel?

Can they add the rule where its kept to a maximum of 140 characters as well?

No, she keeps them in a jar at home.
It is in my back right pocket, shaped suspiciously like my wallet.
By my prediction, that is how long it is going to take for OLPC to take credit for this.
Stop being a dick.

That is just silly. Users are users for a reason, and admins are admins for a reason. If users want to install software, they can use sudo.
Whoever approved that in the Fedora team needs a refresher in security.
Just curious.....

Holy crap as you all serious? you are dismissing it because it isn't on its own tracks?
You are all stupid. Stupid stupid stupid. Its pretty damn awesome, regardless of whether it has tracks or not.

This guy arranged to have her stuff stolen, and that is conspiracy.
Now we can mount a campaign to "suggest" and "encourage" the death of that blogger based solely on his beliefs. If he dies, it isn't our fault!
In Canada, broadband is classified as an essential service, so any 3 strikes law will fail. You cannot deny a person what is deemed a right.

There is now another liver available for transplant.
but at least he is stubbornly consistent. Without it, openBSD would not exist in its current fine form.
That video can serve as a lesson to others on how to manage a project for an extended period of time and keep things consistent and predictable.
