  1. Re:Not just Spywear on Microsoft Releases AntiSpyware Program · · Score: 1

Ok, trying (hard) to give them the benifit of the doubt. (yeah, yeah) I believe that they could be flagging these as spy-ware enablers. For example, it would be easier to write spyware with WinPCap installed on the system. The VNC programs _may_ have been installed by a malicious piece of software so someone could connect remotely and spy on you, without your knowledge.

Having said that, I don't mind them pointing out that these are on the system, as long as it is fairly clear that these are only a problem if you didn't intentionally install them. Haven't tried the software, don't think I will, but from the description, it appears that this is where they fail/are lacking.

The official name is: Family Entertainment and Copyright Act

How about if we add the fact that this is legislation:
Family Entertainment and Copyright Act Legislation
(FECAL). Guess that is fairly self-descriptive.

I think we should have a website, based on cams that show the "idiot maneuver of the day". It would be even better if it could make it to the news. Law, tickets, fines, screwing someone else's day doesn't motivate most of the idiots, perhaps deep shame and embarrasment would.
Unfortunately, I think it would have to be "idiot maneuvers of the day".

It's documented in many places that this administration & his Gang-o-thugs have wanted to go into Iraq for quite some time.

There are more, you just have to go look, and look beyond the distortion of facts that gets in the media and in the ads. (Neither party seems to care about real facts this election).

It is a crappy idea. Social Security has a huge funding gap that will only be fixed by reducing benefits and raising taxes.

It is a crappy idea, but there are alternatives, and both the Dems & Reps suck in this area. There is some middle ground, but because they will never get together and compromise, we are all screwed. That could be said for just about any part of politics. But, just to illustrate some alternatives, and compare them, check out the following article:
    Add on Accounts (centrists.org)

And when you're sick of Dems & Reps, check out the third parties. 3rd party votes aren't wasted, you just need enough of them. Think of Jesse Ventura, for example, whether or not you agree with him.

The boxed version comes with both DVDs and CDs. 5 CD's and 2 DVDs. Also, it's an image, can't you just loop it in & mount it, similar to what you can do with CD images. Granted you still need the disk space though. And a system already set up.

This (and the next post) were one of my thoughts exactly. What happens over time, when todays level 5 becomes tomorrows level 4. Hell, if you buy a level 5, by the time you get it home and set up, it's most likely a 4 anyway, especially if it's being shipped. One idea would be to have the Level determined by Software, not manufacturer. If there was software that ran benchmarks, and connected to a managed internet server to determine how the computer rates in modern levels of computing. Might make it harder for vendors to dupe those who don't pay attention to detail. i.e. "Really fast Celeron processor with 128MB of memory" wouldn't really fly as a "fast multimedia computer" anymore.

This is why the binary is called "kava" and not java.

I used Kaffe for a project, and found it to be quite stable.

My only gripe was that the project wasn't keeping up with the latest versions of Java. Some of the work in later versions of Java made a LOT of coding easier (SSL, Encryption, Networking, etc). For a while I was able to get around it by developing & compiling on one system, moving over the jar file & executing under kava, which worked fine until late in 1.3.x.

It was for FreeBSD and not Linux, and perhaps the linux version was more up-to-date.

Something this deliberate would have to violate anti-trust, or monopoly laws. At least until the recent bout of lawsuits died down, I would think they'd be cautious of doing something like this. The fine they recently received, while some may view as a slap on the wrist, had to have given them some pause.
