...or, hell, maybe even compensate them for lost wealth?
That sounds like it'd be a great idea if a.) the science and collective wisdom at the time we got our "head start" supported the fact that we were seriously damaging the environment AND we did nothing at all to change, and b.) the people in the US and elsewhere who would be on the hook to pay (the under 40 crowd today, probably) were primarily responsible for the current state of things.
You've given examples of two foreign nationals involvement, are you really trying to suggest that the majority of combatants opposing coalition forces are not Iraqi??
Not at all, you made a blanket statement that implied we are not engaging terrorist organizations and non-Iraqi elements in Iraq, and that is demonstrably false. Do you think Zarqawi was the most wanted man in Iraq because he was a marginal, ineffective player??? Think about it.
Do I believe that the majority of terrorists and insurgents in Iraq are not Iraqi? No. But most reports suggest that external elements are responsible for some of the most deadly attacks against both coalition forces and Iraqi civilians - inlcuding the vast majority of suicide bombings.
Amusing that you've copy and pasted a list of organizations the majority of which have formed in the wake of the occupation, so in effect you are proving my point. However you decide to label them the people opposing the coalition and fighting in what is now a civil war are the Iraqi population.
They are NOT the Iraqi population - if they were comprised of the entire population our 130k strong contingent would be completely eliminated within 60 days. They comprise SMALL ELEMENTS of the Iraqi population, most of whom are acting on behalft of interests that have little or nothing to do with bringing peace and prosperity to the population as a whole. They are being used as pawns by entities attempting to gain power through terrorist tactics because they either know they cannot get what they want via the political process, or they are affraid they won't be able to get same.
However I for one will not demonise human beings responding in an entirely anticipated way to a situation that we have created.
No, you'll screw the ENTIRE population by fighting for a premature withdrawal of coalition forces before the Iraqis can fend for themselves. You'd be happy as a pig in shit if Saddam were still shredding Iraqi people, Uday raping newlywed brides in front of their grooms, using rape as a systematic tool of terrorism - if it meant the US gets some comeupance. You're happy as heck to see the coalition fail and embolden Iran and Syria. You myopic fool, you selfish asshat. Sitting in your nice, safe western home, you'll throw the possibility of ME democracy down the shitter because you lack the stomach to make the sacrifices necessary to change the paradigm in the ME. You truly make me gag.
Well, here's a question for you: which scenario do you think will preserve more human life, promote more prosperity, lead to less religious extremism, a situation where we make the sacrifices now to plant the seeds of democracy, self determination, and economic freedom amongst ME residents, or one where we ascribe the status quo, supporting dictatorships and kingdoms that oppress their peoples? Which will be a better scenario when the oil starts to run out and the ME becomes even more important than it is today?
Who do you think we've been fighting for the last three years? These people we're killing aren't members of super secret terrorist organisations or foreign insurgants that have entered Iraq, we're fighting the Iraqi population.
Yes, Andy, they are terrorist orgs: "On June 30, 2006, Osama bin Laden released an audio recording in which he stated, 'Our Islamic nation was surprised to find its knight, the lion of jihad, the man of determination and will, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, killed in a shameful American raid.'" Oh, and BTW, al-Zarq was JORDANIAN, you know, foreign. And his replacement, Abu Ayyub al-Masri, is an Egyptian - you know, a foreigner.
And no, they are not the "Iraqi population", for the most part they are members of the following insugency/terrorist groups: Mujahideen Shura Council, Mahdi Army (Jaish-i-Mahdi), Badr Organization, Fedayeen Saddam, Al-Qaeda in Iraq (Tantheem Al-Qaeda fi BiladirRafidain), Jaish Ansar al-Sunna, Mohammad's Army (Jaish Mohammed), Islamic Army in Iraq (Al-Jaish Al-Islami fil-Iraq), Iraqi National Islamic Resistance (Moqawama al-Islamiya al-Wataniya, "1920 Revolution Brigades"), Islamic Resistance Movement (Harakat Al-Moqawama Al-Islamiya), Islamic Front for the Iraqi Resistance (al-Jabha al-Islamiya lil-Moqawama al-Iraqiya - JAMI), Jaish al-Mujahideen, Jaish al-Rashideen, Asaeb Ahl el-Iraq (Factions of the People of Iraq), Black Banner Organization (ar-Rayat as-Sawda), The Return (al-Awda), Nasserites, Wakefulness and Holy War, Mujahideen Battalions of the Salafi Group of Iraq, Liberating Iraq's Army, Abu Theeb's group, Jaish Abi Baker's group, Islamic Salafist Boy Scout Battalions (Kataab Ashbal Al Islam Al Salafi).
These are not innocent men, women, and children, these are terrorits groups comprised of individuals who have made a decision to kill or maim other Iraqis and Coalition forces in order to further their own agendas. They are an impediment to peace and security and are legitimate targets.
Let the Americans and Britons squabble. And as they do this, the Russians will give them a not-so-pleasant surprise. Who cares anyway?
Right, like the SU-27 is any match for the Raptor. Get a grip. And besides, even if the Russians had a competitive air superiority fighter, they don't have the most critical piece of air superiority - airborne command and control. Russians might be able to defend their airspace for a few days, but as for bieng able to project air power outside of Russia? No way.
The American military machine, touted as the strongest, most efficient, lethal, modern and advanced, has just got a beating from AK-47 wielding thugs of IRAQ. The sad thing is that it has takes three years and almost 3,000 coalition deaths for the military authorities to acknowledge this.
As opposed to how many terrorist/insurgents bagged? We take them out 10 to 1 or more. We're not getting our asses handed to us in Iraq, we're getting our asses handed to us by the American news media and the general impatience and lack of fortitude of the average American.
An urban insurgency nullifies some of the technological advantage of some weapons systems, but by no means does that mean weapons systems like the JSF and Raptor are worthless.
Give credit where credit is due. Linux is just the kernel. Without the efforts of people involved with the GNU project , MIT, Berkeley and others too numerous to mention, the Linux kernel would not be very useful to most people.
Even with MIT, Berkeley and others, Linux isn't very useful to most people. As in, outside of Linux server admins and those end users who like to tinker, the rest of the planet couldn't give a hoot about Linux. That's just a fact, Jack.
You assume that the whole premise of using directed energy to destroy an object in-flight is flawed. It's not. The only thing flawed is your capicity for reason in addition to a high probability that you loathe any technical advance that may translate into US military superiority. Doesn't matter to you one bit that anti-ballistic lasers may on some future day save millions of people from instant cremation.
That's bull, a XPS M1210 configured to similar specs to the base Macbook Pro is $17 cheaper, but lacks FireWire 800, backlit keyboard, and gigabit ethernet, and has an inferior graphic card and CD/DVD burner - and it doesn't run OSX.
No, ArcherB, foreign leaders murdering thier own people is only a good thing to wring our collective hands and talk about, not to actually do anything about...
Well, I don't know about fuckups. Iraq II and Afghanistan are still in motion, but you and your ilk sure do seem to want to see it turn out badly. Interesting how the left, self described standard bearers for human rights, cannot wait for Afghani women to be thrown out of the schools and denied the vote. But who are Middle Eastern women to get in the way of your political agendas? No, you'll throw them under the bus post haste if it means achieving your political ends. Yes, these conflicts are costly in many ways, but what would be the cost of failure?
Hard to see how Grenada and Panama are fuckups as things have turned out for the better for both due to our intervention. Oh, and the halfwit above bellyaching about Noriega being "our guy"? So what, you think we should sit on our hands and not solve a problem, and later call the solution a fuckup due to the fact that we had a hand in creating it? That's rich. And twisted.
Korea, very hard to make a case that that was a fuckup - ask a South Korean if they'd like to live in the North and brew tree bark for breakfast and see what they say... Then ask a North Korean the same question after you've actually shown them what food, television, and telephones are like...
Vietnam was a debacle - primarily due to the fact that people of your political stripe made it too difficult to win. The millions of Vietnamese and Cambodians slaughtered by Ho and Pol Pot after our withdrawal thank you, I'm sure.
Hard to see the Balkans operation as a failure seeing that it ended systematic genocide. It was a pretty hair-raising thing, though, if you remember, what with that idiot Wesley Clark nearly starting a hot war with the Russians at Pristina Airport. that guy is a moron of the highest order.
Iraq I a fuckup? Only that we left Saddam in power, but then, removal was never the mandate. I wonder what Ted Kennedy is doing with those 10,000 body bags?
Somalia a fuckup? Yes, only because Bill was a spineless toad. The mission was noble.
Iraq II is still in motion, but it is interesting to watch the American populace deal with the conflict. The media gush over every fatality. Nevermind that Iraq II, considering how long boots have been on the ground, is the single most antiseptic conflict in the history of warfare. More has been achieved with less loss of life than at any time in military history. There were more American casualties in the last TWO DAYS of World War I than US combat fatalities in the last 3.5 years in Iraq. Yet you lack the fortitude to continue towards success. You worm.
The airlines lease physical space, in all probability their leases make no mention of wireless conditionals, the FCC controls the spectrum and is the arbitor when spectrum usage is in question.
This happened about the time we stopped using the army for actual defense of the country and instead started using it to bully the rest of the world.
Let's see now, who have we directly bullied since the War Department became the DoD?
North Korea - fuzzy, cuddly little things they are, what with the gulags, starvation, totalitarianism, etc.
North Vietnam - stict followers of peace and non-aggression, them. Never hurt a flea.
Grenada - after cuddly little Cubans took over the island nation by force and trapped American sudents
Panama - after that cute little fuzzball Noriega decided to become a primary drug conduit and looked the other way as his military took to brutalizing US service members and their wives.
Iraq - warm and fuzzy Saddam invades neighbor and appears to have desire to go to Saudi, potentially throwing geopolitical and economic stability to the sewer.
Somalia - Aidid hordes food from starving Somalis, we go to try to assist. Real bullies we were in trying to help out...
Balkans - those nice, peace-loving Serbs and their enlightened ways of genocide, rape, etc. Bullies we were!!!
Afghanistan - Wonderfully cordial and free thinking taliban, harboring terrorists and disallowing sports, music, games, education for women, etc. Bullies we were!!!
Iraq (2) - The nice man Saddam and his systematic use of rape as a torture tool, sons Uday and Qusay raping newlywed brides in front of grooms, killing Iraqi olympic athletes who didn't measure up, putting living humans through shredders - how dare we bully those wonderful folks??!!!
You are indeed and "soft_guy", in more ways than you know. You're also a hopelessly twisted moonbat with a phase inverted worldview.
To clarify, I'm surprised he's not been plugged full of lead at the behest of some company or group of companies. Not advocating it, just looking at it from a Machiavellian perspective.
Actually, lots of people do. I actually do have a lot of love pouring out of me, so to speak.
Riiiiiight. Now go home and wait by the phone like you've been doing for such a long, long time... It'll ring someday, maybe a telemarketer will call, or something. And stop looking at the neighbor's kids like that, it freaks people out.
You've earned a bullet through the head by your support of treason, torture and murder.
Well, I'd love to see you try it, liberal manly man. LOL!! What a boob you are.
It really must be an interesting life you lead, Darby, what with all of that love pouring out of you 24/7. I'll bet you're just a hoot to hang out with! Everybody LOVES that Darby dude!!
Have a lot of friends, do you? Calling you up all the time to watch the game, have a beer and shoot the breeze. Maybe cook out on the barbeque? You the guy everyone calls for that annual boys night out? You must have to beat all those folks off with a stick! Eh, bet not...
I'm laughing right now because I know people like you, Darby. It's pretty sad, really, all the obsessive hate. You really do need the couch time. Really. Look into it.
No, it's not to simply scare us, it's to scare us into doing what they want, you know, make policy changes. Now, if you want to give them whatever they want at the expense of our national interest, then I have a name for you; it starts with a "c" and rhymes with "howard"...
You are a terrorist. Laughing and gloating. Republican pedophile. I'd ask who raped you as a kid, but I'm not interested in knowing any more about your evil ass.
Well, Doc, that's not very nice of you! I love it how you tolerant libs show us all what you really are. LOL! (BTW, it was your daddy...)
After 9/11, the terrorists don't need to attack anymore. We're afraid now. We weren't afraid under Clinton.
That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever read. You were oblivious to the threat under Clinton. There is no safety in ignoring the threat, but there is safety in engaging it. Do you think that as long as you don't know there is a homocidal maniac waiting in your closet that you're somehow more safe? That's just retarded.
More laughing and gloating about torture, unwarranted wiretaps, throwing over the Afghanistan and Iraq wars?
No, laughing and gloating about how much energy you've (and 95% of the media) wasted while endlessly wringing your hands, bitching and moaning, and generally making an ass of yourself - for nothing!
About ignoring bin Laden, as we're discussing in this thread, until he planebombed us and offered political cover for fascism?
Hey, WTC #1, Khobar Towers, US Embassy #1, US Embassy #2, USS Cole all happend under your guy's watch, not mine, thank you very much. And what did we do about that? Bombed a few empty tents and a milk factory. Yeah, I'll bet ol' Binny was quaking in his boots over that.
Interesting how most of the terror ops that have transpired since 9/11 have happened elsewhere, but I'm sure you'll not want to talk about that kind of thing.
Come back and post your thoughts on Nov. 8th, Doc. I'll already be in a good mood, but more laughing and gloating is always therapeutic. Especially when it's at your expense... LOL!
That's right, Somalia never offered him up, but Sudan did. And even if they didn't, it doesn't change that fact that Clinton did next to nothing (relative to what he could have) about bin Laden after the first WTC bombing, after the Khobar Towers, after the two US embassy bombings in Africa, and after the USS Cole bombing, all of which were al Qaeda related. How could he not know we were in peril??? Perhaps if he had taken it more seriously 2900+ people wouldn't have perished on 9/11. Perhaps if he would have met with his CIA Director more than three times in 8 years he would have been more in tune with what was happening. Perhaps if he did not entrust US national security and foreign policy to washed up dimwits like Sandy Berger, Madeline Albright, Warren Christopher, et al, we wouldn't be in the fix we're in today.
Oh, and I love how you libs attack Bush for not doing anything for the 8 months he presided prior to 9/11. Normally an incoming president has roughly three months to assemble an administration during the time between election day and inauguration day. But no, that boneheaded hypocrite Al Gore had us all looking at pregnant chads, cherry picking which FL counties to recount, and working with the farcical FLSC to in an attempt to rewrite election law - all the while wasting precious time traditionally used to transition government. Al Gore cost the Bush administration at least two very valuable months of time getting up to speed.
I also love it how you scaremonger about losing your civil rights under Bush. Well, last I heard, Bush's AG didn't order the murder of men, women and children at Waco after being assaulted Iwo Jima style by wannabe Special Forces. And of the warrantless wiretaps, what in the name of fucking hell did you think Echelon was in the 90's? A joke of some kind? And of the Clinton admin's Carnivore system? Last I know, Bush was targeting terrorists, not everyday Americans.
The Clinton administration should thank its luck stars the that Internet came on the scene when it did, because with out it, the economic prosperity of the 90's would never have occurred, and then there would be absolutely, positively nothing with which to look back on with any warmth whatsoever.
It'll go over like a lead baloon...
Not at all, you made a blanket statement that implied we are not engaging terrorist organizations and non-Iraqi elements in Iraq, and that is demonstrably false. Do you think Zarqawi was the most wanted man in Iraq because he was a marginal, ineffective player??? Think about it.

Right, like the SU-27 is any match for the Raptor. Get a grip.
