  1. They are doing to push IE also on MS To Limit Security Fixes to Legal Copies of Windows · · Score: 0

They are just trying to get people to use IE, if a user goes to microsoft.com to download a manual update and the verification doesn't work, they will be forced to use IE and possibly switch back.

  3. Why use windows update? on Microsoft Security Updates for Pirated Windows? · · Score: 0

YOu don't have to use windows update...you can download the patch for your version of windows(if you can figure that out).

    Here are the steps
    1. go to microsoft.com
    2. Click Sasser worm(important information)
    3. Click instructions for windows XP(or 2000)
    4. Go to step 7 and click on that link
    5. Click go on the right panel to download it.

We burned them to cd to run at school...just pop it in double click....wait a little bit and then your done.

  4. 45 dollars!? on Is Windows Worth $45? · · Score: 0

I build computers on the side for freinds and family and church people. I "pirate" all microsoft software on each one of them that I built. Why? Because I have to compete with dell and the other manufacturers who have the best "deals". It costs them 45 dollars where as it would cost me over 100 each time. I personally use gentoo linux and as far as I am concerned microsoft can KMA! They need to spend all that money on some REAL programmers! I agree with basically what everyone else has been saying. Microsoft just fixes what didn't work the last version which was better then the last version which fixed the last version. I am forced to use windows machines at school and I have to keep up anyhow to be able to help end users. All that has happened to windows since 95/98 was improvement to the GUI and bug fixes.

if you don't know how to su into root then how can you criticize linux??

I grew up w/ an apple IIe and a dos system...since then its been all windows...lately I have been using Gentoo linux. I have used other distros but i like gentoo...I dual boot gentoo and xp on 2 different hd

gentoo is really easy to secure...guess how many ports are open on my gentoo??? 0 as in ZERO ZILCH NADA....my xp box....should i even go there....

by the way it was like that with a fresh install zero tweaking...all those linux systems that might have been compromised were probably like red hat, mandrake servers....... Stick with what you know is safe and practice with what you don't know and then use it....

I am 17 and I bet my system is more secure then system admins w/ comp science degees being paid a lot, and my gentoo is like this OTB

yeah.. they talk about training and all that horse shizness...If you didn't hire idiots you wouldn't have to train them..If you are an IT manager you should already know how to setup and use your operating system.
Besides after you have it setup, to keep it up to date is really easy, and then you won't need a large staff. For instance you could make a start script in Gentoo so that it would run emerge system and emerge world. All programs and the system would be automagically updated!!
Microsoft is trying to push linux off. They know it is eating it's market share.
They talk about having to use less hardware....Why is it when I am using XP it uses all my 512mb of ram and 304 mb pagefile is being used and when I use gentoo i am using no pagefile and maybe 1/4 of my ram... I beleive it could handle quite a lot more users then the same sytem w/ xp.
Example at school our webserver always crashed because people screwing with it and it crashed any because of windows. I converted that same crappy dell Pentium 3 to mandrake w/ apache and it has been running flawlessly for several weeks now...still no problems.Ohh yeah and my die hard micrsoft teacher is udderly amazed at how much faster it "loads". Now I am the hero. Woohoo I feel the power
I just told my 65 or so grandfather that microsoft just launched its ad campaign against linux...and without me leading him he said.... well they must be worried about them taking over then.
He is as country as corn bread and chicken and it must take him like 3 minutes just to see the weather on the internet yet he picked up on that instantly!!
Obviosly if they are marketing against *nix specifically they are scared shitless of it. If it was not as good a product as theirs they wouldnt be worried about it. I wonder if their anal -lysts just figured out linux is taking away major market shares!
