Frontline aired a good documentary on Nuclear Power a while back.. and oh.. here's the site for it..Apparently in France, there is much different opinion on nuclear power than in N.A. See for yourself
So far, Gmate has had trouble just getting the Yopy to ship even. Lets see gmate get the yopy shipping before hyping up another vapour pda device. If you follow the yopy mailing lists, most people have given up on it for the Compaq iPaq, a device that is available right now, can run linux and wince, and has support via handhelds.org.
I'm not an expert on software piracy, but wouldn't a subscription style service reduce piracy of MS Office ? It's probably one of the most pirated pieces of software out there..So Using one-time registration codes for continued subscription would help imo
"When IBM showed a prototype of this technology in 1998, many in the industry predicted this display wouldn't be ready for mass production until at least 2010," said Ross Young, president of Display Search, a display market research firm in Austin. "The technology can change the way computers are used in a wide range of areas where extremely high-resolution images are required, and I am impressed that IBM is able to produce them today."
If you live in the west, there is a blackout for the results in the east, since the eastern provinces pretty much determine the outcome.. not sure what that does.. but thats the law.. some guy is planning on posting results on the net..however..
Linux.com Feature Story: Another Halloween
Document
Ryan Gordon strikes again with another work of satire! Another
'leaked memo' from Microsoft on Hallowe'en, to celebrate the
infamous 'Halloween Document' of years past. While clearly a work of
satire, this one is sure to inspire some heated discussion. Check it
out! By the way, that's Ryan juggling in today's Photo Of The Day.

Riders in the Tour, like
Bobby Julich post online diaries
after every stage of the Tour. Do they get paid
for doing it? Probably. If not, its for publicity. But still, at least the UCI (the group that organizes the race) lets them do it, and it gives fans of the sport a chance to hear how the race is like from a rider's perspective.
Of course, other aspects of the race like what you are supposed to wear is just like the Olympics, but at least they give freedom (i think)to any news agency to post stories/results, and to allow participants to write journals. And remember , after soccer, this is the premier sporting event in Europe.
This months linux journal has a 2-page ad on it (pgs 54-55). I'm no expert on embedded stuff, but it seems to have the same features as the ones mentioned in the article.. except that its x86, like the "STPC Industrial" soc. Anyone know any more about it and how it rates up to the others ?
As the owner of a rev A. iMac, let me tell you that the fan they have (for the power source I think, NOT the cpu).. is quite loud, moreso than what I find in most windows box cases.. That sound combined with cd-rom's noise, you'd appreciate the quietness of a laptop when the HD isin't spinning..
I always find pinball more enjoyable than other arcade games, maybe that's because I like the "match" feature at the end for free games..(being a cheapskate and all). But seriously.. the pinball machines that have recently hit the market are
1. have more plastic, which gives the unit a very cheap/ cheesy look
2. often include a colour video monitor built-in..like the new star wars..so what is it, a pinball machine or a video game box ?
My personal favourite is the Star Wars pinball, the original one, not the sega/williams release. You could get a fair game of pinball on that unit, unless the owner was cheap and raised the rear supports so that you could get the ball up the ramp. The original star trek one was quite well done too..and the TNG. The whole trend in having electronic displays was just starting when these machines came out, so there still is a lot of 'old school' feel to them..
If you want an easy way to share photos with friends/family over the net, then digital is the obvious choice. Check photo.net. Phil has done a great job with that site. Cameras like the Canon Powershot S10/S20 are really good for that purpose.
However, if you intend on taking photos to print out, I would say get a film camera. I don't know if it is any cheaper, but unless you are using top-of the line archival quality ink, the photos printed from *any* inkjet printer will fade rapidly...and even then, film is still probably better (for now). expect a film print to stand up much more than an inkjet print..
ARS had a link on this device yesterday..a celeron box the size of a zip drive. It's supposed to be used with a desktop monitor. The biggest pro with this is that you can easily lug it around.. video is limited though
"Our goal is to offer the world's best computer science education, at an undergraduate level, to people who are currently unable to obtain it. "
Lack of financial means is just one limitation. Some people may honestly want to take the program, they may not be the cream of the crop in academia, but grades aren't everything. They are important, but.. What about all the brillant folk out there who just had a run of bad luck on their SAT's ? Making a cut-off for a standarized test is in some ways unfair to them. What if, for whatever reason, their transcript is not 4.00 or close to stellar ? I hope this place doesn't turn out to be some sort of elitist institution
How is this a troll ? The coward is speaking the truth. If it's such an off-topic, then why the hell was/. so gung-ho about posting IPO news on linux companies (read: redhat, read valinux, read cobalt, read caldera) ? Why did the VA/Linux merger get a beanie award ?? Stop being so hypocritical
When you watch CBS news tonight.. see the credits..it should mention something about how its archived in betamax..
