How hard is it to port stuff from x86 implementations of Linux/*BSD to the ARM processor? With a cruesoe device, this wouldn't be necessary, but I guess if enough hackers buy the Yopy, app shortage shouldn't be a big deal..
The media loves to publish these here today gone tommorrow studies, on trinkets of human behavour. They are infamous for suggesting that correlation = casuation, even though anyone with some sense of science will know that to be false. Loneliness is a multi-faceted definiton, in this case they define it as not physically being w/ others. what about things like loneliness due to lack of intimacy? of course, getting into that requires you to have a quantifiable objective for poor intimacy, opening another can of worms. This study is like trying to predict what leaf falls first from a tree reliably, and it falls flat on its face.
A Canadian company specializing in wireless technology, Wi-Lan,acquired the original patent from Lamarr for "spread spectrum" technology back in 1998. Wi-Lan claimed that they were going to promote her role in developing the technology but sadly, I never saw much of that (I live in Canada and recall reading the article in June/98 in TCP, before Wi-Lan's apparent "discovery" by investors). The long overdue credit could still happen, but it's not the same once the co-inventor is dead (Lamarr's husband helped invent SST).
I noticed that Woz referred to RISC designs as an advantage for the Mac..I would have too, if not for the ARStechnica article about RISC/CISC...which makes me believe that we are in a post RISC/CISC era. The G4 has a RISC history, but it has more instructions that some CISC chips! And I'm a Mac user to boot..

I'm worried that since he was not born w/ sight (at least I think), how would he react ? Vision would be so alien to him, that I don't know if he could adapt to it at his age. The brain hard-wires most of its connections early in life, with decreasing plasticity as the years go by..
LinuxPPC is not too bad for installing..i'm running it on my iMac, and its making use of my system resources is a way MacOS can only dream of..in other words..for true multi-tasking/stability..go for linuxppc. Printing is a real bitch though for non-PS printers, and Staroffice does not compile.. imaclinux
Linux would be better on that other PDA

I just dont think the Palm platform is feature laden enough (right now atleast) to fully take advantage of linux..I admit, I still a newbie to linux, but something like that other device mentioned, which had wireless ethernet, 800x600 screen..tablet form factor,USB.. sounds like a much better candidate.. Like other people said, PalmOS does a good job of acting as a personal organizer
I wish they used formats like CF for memory..it would make it so much easier to upgrade. And I don't care what anyone says..grafitti sucks..period. Jot is a lot more intuitive/closer to my own chicken-scratch
