Because I don't wan't everyone knowing a lot about me. I like people not knowing stuff about me. Particularly things like my income (why should anyone care buy me and the IRS), ex-wives, speeding tickets, where I live when I don't know them, who I talk to and a whole host of other things. If I choose to tell someone or post something on the internet that is fine by me. But I don't want them finding out info any other way.
At least when I submit to a government background check I have to give them permision first.
The treaty says to reduce emmisions by 5% of 1990 levels, not to 5% of kyoto levels. Russia currently outputs ~60% as much CO2 as they did in 1990 due to the economy going into the toilete. That means that they can increase their current levels by ~50% and still comply with kyoto.

I though a lot of people were against a federal government issued ID card? Seems that a lot of people in the U.K. are against this as well. Especially since people associate this with "Big Brother". Although, I can think of two IDs that are federally issued. Passport and Military ID (Both of which I have had for about 10 years).
I can see a problem with the private keys, however. Making sure people can remember them If they are on the cards then if you lose your card someone can impersonate you. If they have password to access the keys, they the problem is making sure that people use a proper password, but what happens if you forget said password. I am sure there are other problems with that as well. For now, lets just require the proof of a valid ID issued at the state level. It's a lowtech solution that should work to eliminate most of the problems.
You don't buy a P2 for a "missing critical" security sensitive computer. Where would you get a replacement CPU, ISA card, 150Watt power supply and other old stuff when your computer breaks?

Just to modify this slightly, lets not require a drivers liscense (since enough people 18 and over don't have them) but require a state or federally issued photo ID that has address of residence listed on it. Every DMV that I know of allows you to get a Photo ID with those requirements listed. (This Photo ID is not a drivers liscense, it is just an ID.)
Well, tell me this then, how would using Linux help at all? When one can click and update thousands of computers at once, one click can kill them all whether you are using Windows or Linux. The reason for having one type of OS though is that it is easier to manage. It's easier to manage computers when they are all exactly identical. When you have someone call in with a problem, you don't have to worry about which OS they are running and which hardware. You can also fix it by replacing the machine/piece of hardware directly if necessary. With two or more OSs, you have to worry about support and inventory necessary to keep all the machines working. A monoculture may be bad for security, but having more than one OS widely distributed on desktops wreaks havoc with the management of the systems. You also have to worry about getting them all to talk nice to each other. Places have this problem even while using Open Source programs

Do you have means of keeping business working without this system? The military always have backups so that they can still communicate. Central data is not necessary for warfare. Maintenance records are not necessary either. Every base/ship keeps local records so that they don't have to go to central records to find out if Jet X needs maintenance today or next week. Anything that is in this center will have some form of backup or a way of working without it.
Couple that with the fact that countries such as China are training teams of hackers to wage computer warfare, and maybe terrorists don't even need to detonate a car bomb to take our systems out.

As for a bottom of the barrel PC, that is all anyone really needs today unless they are playing games. Which I highly doubt will even come installed on these PCs.

I have seen a secure windows system that is inderectly connect to the itnernet. It usues Linux, WIndowws, ACORN and Unix. If any system starts sending packets to a computer it is not supposed to it is cut off and a red light goes up. They are also programed to ignore all pakcets sent by computers they are not supposed to recieve from. Any port that is not necessary is closed. So it is possible to set up a secure environment using Windows. Oh, and the system is call ACE.
This system has an expected downtime of somewhere around 13 seconds per year. So far it hasn't gone down once in 6 months.
This system actually has a connection to the itnernet. I highly doubt the Air Force's will.

If a terrorist took out a single data center it might take out part of central records but it wouldn't affect the airforce much. Generals will get their information the same way they have been. The military have a joke that if someone took out the Pentagon they would be doing them a failure by eliminating a lot of red tape. They won't relly completely on anything. Datacenter get destroyed and they will work around it.

However, as I understand it one we got Mars up to a high enough atmospheric pressure (say, 1/2 an atmoshpere [airplane cabin cruising pressure I am told]) You might have to add another comet once every, say, 10,000 (yes ten thousand) years.
Oh, and moons are supposed to help strip off the atmoshpere faster. But the two little asteroids Mars has for moons are too small to do much for that. It was mostly Mars's lower gravity that caused the loss of atmoshpere so much more quickly than earths.

On this note, you should really look into the research done for it before you say it is a waist. Especially some of the medical research done to help support it. Also, once we get a space elevator up,the cost will come down dramatically.

How warm do you want it to be is a better question. Mars gets 1/4th as much light as earth. Given that earth radiates/reflects away a lot of heat/light that we get from the sun we can give it earth temperatures. Mars does have an axial tilt so it does have seasons. Something tells me this would be much harder with national parks and having to preserve barren wastelands. Especially since this would pretty much eliminate terraforming mars so that we could go outside without an environmental suit.
Me thinks that you do not know how to do percentages. The change in the margin of victory was 219. 219/42=5.21 This is 521% the margin of victory, NOT 5924%. I note there is a larger percentage difference between your 5924% and the correct 521%
