And that why im so "on" when programs doesnt use the registry for settings.

Thank god for Opera browser, after a reinstall all bookmarks, history, skins, buttons setup, login-sessions (cache) and Wand passwords are there. BLISS!
But some you can. Trillian keep everything in its own dir and writes nothing to the registry (except one.AIM file assosiation).
Just keep it in d:\ and format c:\ all you want, history, servers, skin, "buddies," settings everything is there after a re-install.
Opera is exactly the same, just it writes a strange pointer to its own dir in the registry but _everything else_ is in its own dir. Its pure bliss when you gotta test a lot of latest 3d card and motherboard driver releases.
One bad thing is programs that doesnt clean up the registry when you "uninstall" it.
I re-install windows a lot because I test lots of drivers (bad driver system from Microsoft).
Therefore I love programs I dont need to re-install after a system reformat/reinstall. Programs that keep settings and "libraries" in their own directory.
Keep them in d:\programs and you can reformat/reinstall C: where Windows is any time you wanto.
Opera: create a shortcut to opera.exe and done. History, settings, button layout, skin, log-in sessions, wand passwords, cache, visited link history, browser tabs EVERYTHING.
Windows XPeee however i have to spend at least two hours setting up everything back to normal. Files and folders transfer wizard sometimes bring with it registry bloat and bugs from my last install.
System restore and driver rollback I can only imagine is a workaround for a sad system.
Then the US should sue M$ for being a di**. M$ is found guilty, time they gave up NTFS and Windows Media Format full documentation, lets have some more open Internet here!!!!!
he may sound like a troll but his opinion are right on.
1. win2k and XP is full of workarounds like DLL HELL, System restore, driver rollback, file and setting transfer wiazard. Old drivers messing up your new hardware? reinstall XP. Registry broken and IE open-in-new-window feature doesnt work? reinstall XP.
2. old games dont work. I've tried XPs built-in and third party sound emulators but either the sound is fksced up (One Must Fall 2097) or the speed of the game is wrong.
Seems not to be clear enough among the commoners (many of you...slashdot guys... too).
I'd love a windows XP compile that doesnt have the system restore, double up of DLL files, registry, 1 hour instal/setup time.
I've lots of programs that keep their settings in their own dir and I just run opera.exe and browser windows, login sessions (cookies), history, favourites, menu config, skin everything is right there.
Keep it at d:\programs\opera and I can format c:\ no need to "export" settings and cookies with "file transfer wizard."

Whats the point with that tub-girl thing? I was unfocusing and didnt even watch straight at the screen (previous experience) and I got a shock.
Is it really nescessery or is my feeling that I should protect the welfare of others from you something to pursue?
WOW quicktime and realmedia! My 2 most favourite movie formats! oh the sarcasm!
non-opinion mode:
quicktime for windows is awful to use, it flickers with XPs alphablending crap and its skinned is round and not square which is space wasting and take resources/hard to accellerate for Windows 10 year old GUI.
realmedia is just some mock-up of a format which heavily cuts down on FPS, colors and resolution. PLEASE dont use any WMF because of M$ hunger for taking-things-over-and-making-them-suck. how about divX or old MPG2?
BTW M$ took over internet by bundling IE and giving it out free, now they want online video streaming standard with their WMV format. As its not open at all, M$ should be hacked or forced to give out source code and complete specs. At least give Linux etc a chance.
