    If your employees live in a stimulating and satisfying environment, where they are allowed to use powerful tools, which are pleasant to work with and allow them to write their code as a work of art, they'll be more productive, which is good for the bottom line. And satisfied employees will stay longer at your company too, which will save training costs for the new replacements (which might leave just as quickly...). Yes, art can save money too.

    Actually, this "mobile judges" proposal seems much worse than any trial-by-jury could be. Even assuming that the judge is knowledgeable about the law and the facts, and not corrupt, do you really believe that he will be able to give a well thought out sentence from the top of his motorbike seat in just 2 minutes?

    The switch back to dailyght saving time in spring already accounts for 1 hour/year . Indeed, mainframes don't store the time in GMT, and the only way to avoid major confusion is to switch them off during the one hour in spring that is double... Or maybe, because that hour really doesn't exist, they just didn't take it into account in their calculation? Or is this "five nines" realiability only for places which don't have daylight savings time?

    Yeah, but the DVD CCA might then claim it was too tiny to read. So make sure that it's displayed in some huge letters, and have the whole code scroll by slowly. If somebody asks, pretend it's just a screensaver.

    Or, you could actually use NT's "marquee" screensaver to pull it of (well, that would be one thing NT would be useful for ;-) )

Rather to the contrary: the regulars of the newsgroup were in a years lasting war against Church of Scientology, where the CoS tried every possible trick to disrupt the newsgroup, and the newsgroup developped ever more ingenious countermeasures. Not using those countermeasures would basically have meant giving up the group entirely.

    ... methinks you are making a strawman argument here. The original poster was complaining that animals had to suffer in order to develop a product that is meant for entertainment only.

    This is an entirely different story than medical research. Many people oppose experiments on animals if they are for making cosmetics or other irrelevant articles, but they do agree that animal experiments are occasionnally necessary for medical research.

    ...you can chose not to invest in a risky company such as Microsoft. If Microsoft turns sour, it's you, the fundmanager, who screwed your own customers. It's not MSFT's ennemies nor MSFT's competitors faults. After all, by now it should be public knowledge that MSFT isn't loved by everybody, and astute fund manager should take that fact into account in their risk calculations.
