let me get this straight....you're telling us that AA is 'Old hat' because ClearType in an operating system that hasn't even been released yet does it?
I could understand if you refered to the font smothing in Win9x, but the fact that you actually mentioned XP as your justification for the statement is a little confusing...
Unless you meant the sub-pixel stuff....but that isn't AA in itself, it just a technology that can improve AA even more on LCD displays, due multiplying the effective horizontal resolution.
you still cannot write commercial apps without buying full commercial QT license - so what RMS got from this? and his "forgiveness" to the KDE developers? nothing - cosmetic issue, nothing else
Actually, I'd say that RMS is probably VERY pleased with this outcome, as he is against all commercial software, KDE fills his needs far more than Gnome, since Gtk+ uses the LESSER GPL (LPGL), which RMS has been trying to discourage people from using.
QT on the other hand, uses the GPL for free software, and if you want to do something closed, then you pay for a commercial license.
I'm sure RMS was quite happy to see this small disincentive to produce proprietry software.
From what I can tell, he already HAS the reputation...and in fact is afraid of this hurting his reputation.....
If you ask me...there's no force on this earth more terrifying than a hoard of US Laywers with the backing of a multi billion dollar company, and a brain dead law behind them
And I really doubt that Intell will prevent VIA from using it.....it would sort of defeat the purpose, it's intended to REPLACE PCI....and the only way it'll do that, is if it can be used in every PC....
Currently PCI is used not just in Intel machines, but Macs, Sparc workstations and others....
From reading the articles, it doesnt look like you can really blame outlook for this one..
The file is a.exe...NOT vbs, so naturaly it can do whatever it wants....it does the SMTP stuff itself, and just happens to look at the Outlook address book to get it's list of email addresses. (as well as going through the temporary internet files directory)
There's no real reason why it couldn't have been written to look at the netscape address book too.....except that it probably wasn't worth the effort...
>Unfortunately, they don't plan to roll out to newer suburbs like mine at this stage, due to the underground powerlines..
or even some older subburbs....which sucks...their planned coverage map shows Dunlop, Fraser, Latham and Flynn....but leaves a bloody great hole where Charnwood is....
so it's Telstra ADSL for me....
fortunately I'm not with them YET...not till friday...so i Know my username is safe....for now....heh..
It may not be detectable or stoppable, but it's still possible for them to put it in their terms of service....no matter how stupid a restriction like that is....
Maybe not.....as he stated at the top, he wasnt interested in showing how fast a G4 was if you tweaked and optimized it to hell.....he just wanted to see how it compared doing the things he actually did......
I don't believe he was trying to prove any point, or show either platform in any particular light.....he was just trying to see what results he would get with what he has...
I would say that he is saying that QT 1.4x had the same degree of features that GTK2.0 will have, and that the realse of QT3 will bring even more features that KDE can use, thus theoreticaly leading to a more powerful desktop.
I havent used eith GTK or QT beyound the first couple of chapters of their respective tutorials, so I don't know how accurate the statement is.
When copying software is illegal...not everyone does it.
But if copying and sharing software was completely and utterly legal and free of recrimination, then everyone would do it...
afterall...why pay $80 when you can pay $0..
and THAT is when the software companies go out of business.....
That is why there needs to be laws in place to protect intellectual property....not because of the current situation..but because of what would happen if there were no such laws.
But we're not talking about a quick script here.....we're talking about an application...
and anyway....C IS easy.....if you can't grasp C, then you don't have much chance with many other lanuages....C is so simple that it's almost a pure representation of structured programming principals.
(Note, i'm not saying that if you don't know C that you have problems, only if after making a serious attempt to learn it, you cant get it)
I think what the original poster really meant when he said there was no easy language, was that there was no language that he already knew. I'm sure that if he knows other languages, and was serious about wanting to program for palm or CE devices, that he would be able to pick up one up pretty quick.

I was kind of wondering that too.....

Here's a little suggestion...
Read the article.....
It at least answers your first question....

...unless it's a 1000 page fantasy epic, 10 hours should be plenty of time to read an average 200 - 300 page book....
Probably not....
OCR is far from perfect...so you'd have to do a lot of manual correction....
It's a Teritory election....
The ACT is not technically a State...I'm not sure what the difference is though.....
From reading the articles, it doesnt look like you can really blame outlook for this one..

Personally I don't care if telstra's state owned or not..I just want an alternative!....

the CHARGE you for QIF files??...
I'd say get another bank!...

Most of the growth is in the drivers...and that is a good thing.
Take a step back, a deep breath...and then explain in simple terms exactly what use a headless Desktop Operating System is......
My impression is that AtheOS is not meant to be a server operating system, it's meant to be a multimedia desktop operating system.
I'm assuming the link is wrong?...'cause a brief skim of the article didn't seem to have anything to do with visualisation plugins...
but i LIKE using up shelf space....
I sure hope he's not giving up on printed novels entirely....how am I supposed to fill my bookcases otherwise?....
But the whole point of this is that it doesn't destroy the image.
If you start fiddling with the colour, then the image will be corrupted by the data.
hmmmm.....very true.....I didnt think of that...
however it makes sense....afterall, if there are no posts, there cannot be a first post.
so I'll amend the rule:
for all Nth posts where N > 0 there exists one post N^2/N - (N - 1) that is first.
That logic only works when it's illegal.
When copying software is illegal...not everyone does it.
But if copying and sharing software was completely and utterly legal and free of recrimination, then everyone would do it...
