I work for a company in a similar situation.. with a project that has about 150k lines of c# code.
If you have many (or any) ASP.NET applications, I suggest using the (NEW, in beta) ms-supported "Web Application" plug-in. This works the same way as VS.NET 2003, and will make NO changes to your existing code base - making the migration as simple as just resolving some naming conflicts with the new classes introduced in 2.0. This plug-in is here
For us, we actually switched to using a complete code-based web application (no aspx or ascx files at all), which has turned out to be the EASIEST transition - we can compile our code in both 2003 and 2005 with no problems (until we start taking advantage of the 2.0 features, of course).
The only real problem would be when switching to the new 'Web Site' ASP.NET model, which is just ridiculous as doing the conversion just messes up all of your existing code and it's pretty much guaranteed not to work without manually fixing it up.
Hm, I noticed that too, but I figured it was because he was just getting used to his suit.. You'd look funny too if you're arms and legs were cut off and had new mechanical body parts!! (;
Well, if you want to get technical..
Win9x/ME -> WinXP Home.
Win2k Pro -> WinXP Pro.
Win2k Svr -> Win2k3 Svr.
Since parent didn't specify, I assumed win2k Pro, which most people would use day to day (and thus use a browser).
(;
Wait one minute.. WinXP *IS* the upgrade for 2k. Do you see OSX users getting new functionality for older versions? No. They must buy the _next version_ of the os to get new features.
I expect this is the case for about 99.9% of the software out there.
.. how many people actually think they're smart. Most people I know may be smart in some areas, but not so smart in others.
A truly 'smart' person in my mind wouldn't ever accept that they are so. There is SO much to learn in this world, it is nearly impossible to learn it all in one lifetime.
Hm, just tried firefox and it does load (pngs) as it is downloading. An interesting question would be if the mozilla engine uses libpng, or a custom decoder..
Really? I use konqueror about 95% of my browsing time (other 5% is at work in windows) and I never noticed it. Going to a page with a really large image doesn't show anything until it's fully loaded for me.. *shrug*
Well, with most PC games you communicate with the keyboard. In Halo2 (and any xbox live game), you communicate via voice, which uses much more bandwidth.
What I'd suggest is BOTH. I am a huge C# fan, and am very inexperienced when it comes to Java. I never got into Java because the code seemed very akward and cumbersome to me (event handling, etc).
The dev teams working with java are used to the quirks of the language, thus should be very familiar with how to use the library, even though it might not be the best it could be.
However, If you are looking to provide a tool for companies to use for development, I would recommend both. There is a need for this in both Java AND.NET, since each dev house will use their platform of choice. If you write a.NET version, then it can be used by any lanugage supported by.NET (C#,VB,C++,Java.NET,Cobol,Python, etc). But it will not be usable from native Java.
Perhaps looking into a way to use the same code base, but compile it in both Java, and Java.NET would be the best option here, and give more choice to the customers!
Hm, for those that would like a FREE program to make their ascii (apart from notepad), you can use PabloDraw (cheap plug, yeah, yeah.. but it's relevant)

I don't think there would be a problem with that, as I believe Windows asks the user to turn on auto-update first, which you have the option not to.

I'd imagine this would be why IE can show images as they download, instead of waiting for the whole thing to download like other browsers...
I could be wrong..

So yes, this is very different. (:

Heheh, him and me both.. Creating the RIP drawing routines (for pablo, used by Idle Dreams) took WAY too long! (:
