  1. Re:More needless loss of life. on US Starts Attacking Afghanistan · · Score: 1
Religion has often been as en excuse for war. That isn't religions fault if it has been abused. As a Christian (I don't mean by my birth or official religion, I do believe in God, and Jesus Christ, His son) I have no reason to support Islam, but I really believe that many muslisms to not accept those deeds and don't approve it by their Faith. Bush is trying to act as a good Christian, at least that's the picture I get, but if he did, he'd pray on his knees for wisdom and would try to seek those reasons why these terrorists did what they did.

Instead, his causing many innocent children getting orphans, or worse yet, killing them by 'collateral damage', as it is said. Yes, I know that in WTC many people also lost their relatives, but I'd like to point out that the organisation behind WTC is not an institute looking for people's wellfare. WTO abuses third nations hard, year 1998 it's spokesman dared to claim in public that it is good to transfer most polluting industry to development countries, as a dead worker is not as expensive there as it is in here.

However, there are people who are really 'religous nuts', but I'd like to make difference between them and just religious people. For any true Christian it should be crystal clear that inquisition at middle ages NOR so-called Crusades were acts of God. 2000 years ago God's son askes us only but two things. Those two things were:

    • Love God, your Lord more than anything else
    • Love others as you love yourself
By keeping the last commandment you don't want to kill anybody, even less to cause intentional, prolonged pain. But I don't think that Bush really cares a lot about those things that Jesus had said.

    I also wish I'm wrong.

A most excellent reply! Especially the comment about G8 and WTO. The guy mentioning about Nikes, Coke and Marlboro made also an excellent comment. Too bad some people might have missed the sarcasm and the inconvenient truth behind it. We, people in western, rich countries, we just aren't good people, knights in shiny armor fighting evil. I also believe that much of the terrorists hate is because of the things we have done. We keep many development countries poor intentionally in order to get cheap labour. Huge amounts of money always direct foreing politics. American government had the option to think WHY this horrible terrorist attack happened (it was horrible, and I don't support it). Unfortunately it failed to do so. Bush pretends to be Christian, righteous deliverer of justice fighting satanic monsters (as somebody well pointed out earlier), and sad facts like US foreign policy, acts of WTO & G8 which really result in *thousands of dead people every fscking year*.. will go unnoticed.

What makes me sick very easily is how porn is often defended by claiming that we deserve free speech, free expression.. for these people I suggest how their future wives will feel for their addictive habit, think the correlation between pornography and faithfullness, and I wonder if they'll recommend porn for their future children (which they'll probably have at some stage).

It's only too bad that most of the porn is now on the Web instead of Usenet, and Usenet isn't filled with rubbish only. I subscribe to seven Usenet groups; two of them deal with Xemacs or Gnus, three with Perl, one with Adom RPG :) and one is our local Linux newsgroup (local to Finland). These groups have been of great value to me (perhaps with the exception of r.g.r.a), and it'd be sad to see them disappear. But then again, none of those are binary groups, and I hope that ISP's will take away pr0n groups first before other binary groups.

Any user of pornography does degrade women and supports their abuse - those who say it's ok should meet women whose marriage has been destroyed due to husbands addiction to pornography. There are many of those. I have the unlucky priviledge to know such close couple personally.

Well, as a Christian, I'd like to answer:

Yes, I believe Jesus would be very, very angry because of the bigotry and false people in Churches, and I believe he'd attack the Church.

I, too, often say that the worst enemy for Christianism are us, who obey His directions so badly. And worst of us are bigots.

Still, I cannot say that our days are better. Yes, cruelties in so-called civilised countries are much more rare than in eg. development countries, but this is also an illusion: most if not all large corporations involve in activities which kill thousands of people every year.

For example, many toy-producing companies don't even want to know about the situation in their factories in the far east - most of the workers are practically young (female) children slaves. Their wage is almost non-existant, and often they are chained and locked up during the work day (which lasts usually over 10 hours).

You all would be surprised to know how many of the daily products you use to buy cause people to suffer or die horribly. I didn't know. But I found out, and part of me hopes that I would never have. This information is available for anyone interested, though: at least here in Finland there are several organisations researching illegal child labour, environmental abuses (which often indirectly causes severe human injuries) etc. After I read a book discussing these things I'll never more buy Coca-Cola, or anything from that company, or go to Shell when the car runs out of fuel.

Add to this common deterioration of moral - so called free sex, pornography which distorts the idea of actual love-making, ever-increasing superficial ideas and values, selfishness, ignorance, greediness.. and yes, I too, even as a Christian, have fallen to each of these sins. And I know I will sin as long as I live.

Idea in Christianity is not to point out other people how bad they live. This is something a Christian can (and should) do, but not by promoting him/herself. If such is the case, I'd say she's not a Christian.. the main thing should be to focus on herself and try to do as little evil as possible. According to the Bible, a man cannot do this alone without Christ, and this is something many, many Christians have found true, as I have too.

I'm weak, evil and selfish. With the help of God, I'm able to do good every now and then, though it seems like this is very, very rare :(

I haven't studied recent (living) scientists, but at least Isaac Newton and Einstein would agree with me in getting rid of evolution theory having been Christians.

Being a Christian myself, I see physics and all other real laws something that God considered a Good Thing(TM). I have full faith in physics, mathematics, computer science and all such stuff, but if a theory is contradictory with the Bible, according to the logic (which is something that cannot be wrong by definition) either the Bible must be interpreted wrong, or the theory is wrong (that is, I can't say there wasn't a big bang, because the Bible doesn't say anything contradictory; it might have been the way God did it). In this case, I see it impossible to interprete the Bible so that humans are apes gone through evolution, and as such it must be false.

Note that many scientists, even those who don't believe in God, find every now and then new false predictions in evolution theory. Eg. that long 'tail' in our spine when we're still in the mother's womb is no longer considered a vestige of a tail, but rather something which is necessary for our skeletal development (or something; the point wasn't in the details).
