At $100/year for a single user license ($50 promo) how can this compete with WinXP?
For most systems, the OS that the machine has installed for the better part of it's life is the one that either came with it or was installed on it when it was first put into use. Considering this might be say three to five years, you're looking at $500 per seat over those five years. Seems to me that for a distro to really become widespread on the desktop it will have to be considerablly better than whatever MS is offering as well as cheaper.
Sure they do. And then you start plugging in a keyboard because laptop keyboards suck. Then a mouse because you don't want to use the touch pad while using an external keyboard, right? Then you decide a nice 19" or 20" monitor would be a good idea. Throw in a cradle for your Palm, cable for your 100Mb ethernet, USB cable for your (cheap, non-networked, color inkjet)printer, and your pretty soon have just as much if not more of a mess than you had with a desktop.
OpenOffice is free.

Who is this supposed to be an incentive for? People who want to counterfeit money and the handful of graphic artists that use images of money?
