In other news, yesterday i was presented with a Powerpoint-File which MS Office refused to edit. (Fatal Error or something...)
So after much troubleshooting i fired up OpenOffice and it worked like a charm.

Hmm... you didn't read anything about the case?

It is about allowing OEM's to preinstall other media players. So Joe User doesn't have to download or know it by name. Maybe Dell will ship with WMP, but another OEM might just ship it with RealPlayer. So it is about choice, maybe not the choice of Joe User, but he never had a choice anyway.

This isn't about you and your ability to install a brand new windows from scratch.

It is about the average Joe User who wouldn't even think there is something else than WMP let alone download and install.

This is about giving Joe User a choice, not about you!

So, please, don't cry about companies not being able to choose the best tool. They can. It's more like the decision of the Munich local government. But it seems most of the US-based commenters lose their ability of independent thoughts when it comes to China.

    XviD is based on MPEG4.

Maybe the code is written from scratch, but if there are patents connected with MPEG4 you are screwed. (And i'm pretty sure there are.)
