    First, did you try 2.0?

    Second, you really want to tell me you want a stinkin' MDI? I prefer to be able to use several desktops. But for you the only possible interface seems to be a 1:1 copy of some windows-program YOU are used to.

    WHAT is the advantage of MDI?

    • A grey background?
    • not being able to put windows where you want them?

    As far as i can see, MDI is just Gimp-Interface with those 2 restrictions.

    No, not even that. 71% of the URLs in Spam point to chinese webservers. Nobody ever said that the spam originated and/or is sent via china. Except the china-bashing slashdot-crowd.

    PNGs are smaller than GIFs, better compression, etc. (if you use same color-depth (8 bit)).

    Rhythmbox should be what you are looking for, i use it for all my Ogg/Vorbis-Files, including those tagged with chinese names.

    Maybe it is not supported in combination with commandline and lynx.

    But i am sitting right here with a Microsoft Internet Keyboard (hey, i got it for free) and all keys are working with Gnome 2.6

    Also, the Optimized binary's argument has been de-bunked. (don't have link handy, it's late, ask google.) Compiling everything doesn't get you any mesurable increase in performance. Unless you enable potentialy unstable compile flags.

    You're partially right, compiling standard apps with simple -O3 will not gain you that much. But i DID get an improvement by installing kernel-headers 2.6.5 and recompiling glibc (I think it is by using new functions in 2.6-kernels)

    Even worse! AFAIK the default kernel is still 2.2!

    Check the packages, last time i installed debian there was a 2.4 kernel, but it wasn't the default.
