I'm 50 years old, been programming since I was 14, first on keypunches, then IBM 2741's, various dumb terminals, and finally PC's. My average typing rate is 60 WPM on QWERTY, and not a hint of RSI anywhere. Superman? No, regular (monthly) theraputic massage and daily stretching.
We spend many hours learning new technologies, languages, protocols and the like. Why not spend a few hours learning how to improve our use of the most common form of data communication?
FWIW: I audibly groan whenever I see "loose" used where "lose" should be. I consider it my problem, but sure wish I didn't have to deal with it so often!
When I'm asked to do this, I set one condition: that I get to wipe the computer clean and start from scratch, otherwise, I don't touch it.
If it's for a friend, no charge. If other, flat $100.
Keeping it simple,

As a former NeXT programmer/admin, I really hated to go back to Windows. NeXTSTEP was just so seamless and, well, pretty. I've eaven tried multiple distros of Linux, trying to get back to the "good ol days". Today, for the money and the apps I use, Windows is still the easiest.
But then I was given an iPod (4G 20GB). Just holding it makes me want to go "ahhhhh". The ease of use and functionality made me realize that Windows is just one big compromise. XP is much better than older versions, but it's just not the same.
My current laptop is a 5-year-old IBM ThinkPad. It has served me well. My next laptop will be a powerbook. I really like the ahhhhhhhhhh...
Has anyone considered using multicast streams to distribute content?

Bill Bryson has a few entertaining and enlightening words on this subject: The Mother Tongue and Bryson's Dictionary of Troublesome Words.

Just after I saw the article about Yahoo, I launched Trillian (Pro) and it reported: "Update Available!"
Lo, and behold, it does again interface with YIM. That was fast!
