  1. Re:Brazilian Ethanol [Re:Don't blame me] on The Great Ethanol Scam · · Score: 2, Informative

Not exactly true. Most flex fuel vehicles are just the normal gasoline optimized engine with sufficient excess capacity in the fuel injector size and trim settings to allow the larger volume of ethanol needed for their operation. However, it is possible to optimize a flex fuel engine for ethanol fuels. Saab has done this for several years now:
    http://www.greencar.com/articles/saab-9-5-biopower-gasoline-ethanol-flexfuel-vehicle.php
This Saab is a turbocharged engine and adjusts its turbo settings to provide more boost when it senses it is running on the much higher octane E-85 fuel...effectively increasing the compression ratio in the cylinder. First semester Thermodynamics tell you that the higher compression ratio offers more theoretical efficiency. This Saab puts out more horsepower and torque running on E-85 than on gas, and it gets approximately the same mileage in town and 15% better mileage on the highway.

  2. Poor performance of the new system on Major League Baseball Dumps Silverlight For Flash · · Score: 1

The new Adobe system is not exactly impressive. I'm no fan of Microsoft and wasn't an MLB subscriber last year. This year I signed up. So far the games I've tried to watch have been almost unwatchable with the settings on thier "high def" levels. The games pause for 30 seconds plus sometimes. Often it gets into a mode where it pauses for say 5 seconds followed by 10 seconds of video and another pause. I'm running this on a year old dual core computer with plenty of memory, Win XP, and have 6Mbps+ download rates. MLB's website says you need 3 Mbps for their highest quality settings. The MLB forum is loaded with posts complaining about this. I'm hoping this is just teething trouble with the new setup.

It was kind of like double dipping...it was great for a while. I subscribed back before they offered in store exchanges. It was basically equivalent to NetFlix. Then they started offering free in store exchanges. It was a great way to get a lot of movies a month. They were clearly losing money on me based on the number of movies I got per month...my monthly fee barely covered the mailing charges. Then the in store exchanges were icing on the cake. Of course that couldn't last very long. After maybe six months they changed their terms and you could only in store exchange 5 movies per month. They came out with a new, more expensive plan that offered unlimited in store exchange. It just wasn't worth it for me and I was getting tired of renting so many movies, so I wound up canceling. Recently I decided to join a rental service again, but after reviewing my options I went with NetFlix. Really glad I did now.

I don't know if this will be worth watching. Unless Kirk is going to be gooing up sexy alien women in a decontamination chamber...I'm sticking with Enterprise.

Maybe his cameo could be Trip and the gang having one of their old movie nights and somehow they wind up seeing one of the two episodes Shatner hosted as chairman of Iron Chef America...and everyone leaves while commenting about how incredibly bad the show was.

This site only has a few recipies, but it is great for a laugh. It is kind of like a cartoon version of Good Eats from FoodTV, but with a more warped sense of humor. It is the only cooking show hosted by an appetizer.
