Steve Jobs himself has mentioned many, many times during his keynote speaches that Apple won't be installing OS X on any of their machines until late Summer or Fall. Make sure your friend realizes that. That is when they expect people to migrate to OS X, but I think most consumers will go out and buy it right away. Dumb.

Do us all a favor and please visit www.woz.com and read exactly what Steve Wozniak says about Apple "stealing" the GUI from Xerox.

You'll learn that Xerox received compensation in the form of stock, if I recall correctly. They didn't "steal" anything. They did it legally.

No one is saying that Apple invented the GUI since that is a _very_ broad term. Did every aspect/feature of the original Mac OS have a Xerox counterpart? I doubt it.

Windows Media is avialable on more than just Windows. There is a Windows Media Player for Macintosh (by Microsoft) that works fairly well, but it only plays streaming Windows Media and can not play a locally saved file. I have it installed on my G4, but I rarely use it.

    Are you an expert?

Because the REAL experts say otherwise. The American Psychiatric Association took homosexuality off their list of mental disorders in 1973. In 1975 the American Psychological Associate passed a resolution supporting the action.

They did this because homosexuality is not associated with emotional or social problems. In other words, we have normals lives. That's why you can't compare us to people with ADD or schizophrenia. Something isn't a mental disorder *just* because of something chemically wrong inside our bodies. If that were true then we'd all be mentally disturbed by your definition.

I have a real problem with your statement that gay people don't propogate. That's an incredibly short-sighted statement to make. Just because someone is gay doesn't mean that he/she doesn't want children. There are non-traditional ways of having babies.

We've existed all throughout time, and will always be here.

Your point in well made, but I find it difficult to believe that Star Trek is geared towards children. Maybe.

But I find it interesting to note that for many, many years in Indianapolis ST:TNG and DS9 were shown at night around 10:30 P.M. Of course, they did air each week's new episode on Saturdays around 6:00 P.M.

I guess I'm not sure, but I would say that Star Trek is geared towards a wider audience than just children.

It sounds like you are uncomfortable with gays, lesbians, and bisexuals. That's too bad for you, but there is help available. The majority of mental health professionals call that homophobia and are happy to help you overcome that anxiety.

I'm gay and what you said is offensive. Just because you don't want to see "yucky" homosexuality on TV doesn't mean I don't. Maybe I want to see a gay character in Star Trek? After all, I loyally watched ST:TNG for many, many years.

It's probably difficult for you to understand, as you think we're "yucky", but queers have to put up with straight poeple flaunting their sexuality in our faces every day.

So, basically, asking to see ourselves portrayed on TV isn't asking much.

I think most people didn't care because floppies are less and less relevant for today. The fuss was not made by customers, but rather by the media and the kind of people that read slashdot. If the customer didn't like it, then Apple wouldn't have sold iMacs as well as they have.

Yes, it would be nice to see a floppy drive as an option for the G4, but I think that floppies would be rather irrelevant to the people to which the G4 is being marketed. Graphic design and video editing professionals aren't going to fit much on a floppy disk. If they need to take something home, they can use a Zip drive. (And they most likely already have one.)

But seriously -- not having a floppy drive would be a great excuse NOT to work at home. :-)

I agree with you that it could use more expansion bays and PCI slots, but I think I'd have a difficult time filling it up, at least for my personal use.

Of course, for Apple's market, many were upset with the release of the G3 because it didn't come with SCSI (though it was optional) and they were running out of room to hook in their legacy hardware. But how often is that going to happen? With the daisy-chain functionality of USB and FireWire, I doubt we'll see much of this happening in the future.

As far as floppies, the only use they get now is serving as boot disks on my PC. A floppy-drive-less Macintosh would be just fine with me.
