I've read it can but that data point was based on WWII data. Obviously the science of agriculture has matured a lot since then. Which is to say, just because it was done some 60+ years ago doesn't mean it would be done today.
Having said that, even if there is a recovery period required, you can now afford to grow a lot more of it because you don't have to apply fertilizers, water nearly as much, and no insecticides are required. This means you can alternate fields and even maintain larger crops because less man power and overhead is required to grow. Having said that, I must proclaim ignorance as to what the manpower picture looks like at harvest time for hemp.
Linux's software RAID solution is often faster or on par with high-end hard RAID solutions, plus, it doesn't tie you to a specific hardware vendor. Linux's software RAID solution is generally far, far, far better than the low-end, commodity RAID solutions which comes with various MB/chipsets these days. The down side of software RAID is it takes more CPU. In a day where multi-core CPUs are common and CPUs are faster than ever, almost everyone can spare the CPU. The combination of the two means software RAID is actually one of the best solutions available for many classes of casual RAID users.
However, ethanol will leave the system highly vulnerable to climate change, a risk the US govt with its denial-stance will probably ignore.
It is far worse than that. Corn for ethanol is actually using up one of the largest underground water aquifers in the world which resides under the Midwest. The Ogallala Aquifer is a significant source of water for cattle and crops a like. Additional pressures forced by ethanol means in as little as one to two hundred years basic items such as FOOD may not come from our own country because there is no water to grow it.
So in a nut shell we pay farmers subsidies to crow a crop we don't need, which is thought to create health problems, so we can pay a premium on said crop at the market so we can pay another subsidy on ethanol, so we can pay a premium at the fuel pump, all the while using up our fresh water supplies.
If you feel sorry for the small American farmer, don't! They are killing us now and setting us up for famine later. If the small American Farmer insists on being so irresponsible, they deserve to become extinct. Remember, they could actually lobby for alternatives, but they don't even try.
Add in the fact that much study is currently underway to prove HSCS is the cause of the rapid increase of cancers, obesity, and diabetes in Americans only makes things grimmer; all of which seem to follow the same curve as our shift from cane sugars to HSCS. Long story short, the American Farmer is a greater threat to the US population than is any terrorist plot.
To add insult to injury, alternatives are available for ethanol production, including hemp. Contrary to popular myth, hemp is NOT pot; though pot can be used at hemp. Hemp can actually yield three to four times the same ethanol per acre than corn. Hemp is naturally insect and drought resistant, requiring a fraction of water consumed by corn. Hemp can be grown is almost every state in the US. Hemp is editable. The ONLY problem with hemp is that it has a very long list of political enemies including; corn and sugar beet growers, chemical and petroleum companies, paper growers, and cotton farmers. As most people are completely ignorant of hemp and believe hemp is pot, hemp doesn't have much chance to succeed; thanks in large by the misinformation provided by chemical and petroleum companies following the concussion of WWII, which is the last time it was grown in the US.
The military is already working on hybrid armored vehicles. Fuel for long range movement, electricity for that last mile or two.
I watched a story on this about a year ago. Seems they have lots of problems here. They are also using new armor technology which makes electric motors practical as the armor is much lighter. The problem is, most anti-armor weapons actually blow over these light weight, hybrid vehicles.
This means the only thing which really makes sense for hybrid vehicles right now is light armor (vs small arms) and scout vehicles.
So killing people is ok as long as you pass a law first? Remind me not to vote for christians...
I don't think I said that. I said the Bible supports the concept of Man's Laws and God's Laws. Man is accountable man's laws now and accountable to God's laws in the after life. Similar concepts exist in Islam too.
The same concept holds true for tythings and taxes, at least in Christianity, where comments were made to the money changers stating, "Render unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's, and unto God the things that are God's."
Mandriva definitely went through some growing pains. Okay, okay, it was growing leprosy. The three releases prior to 2007 had some real crufty bugs and lots of things which just didn't work right. These problems brought into question the viability of the entire distribution. Since 2007, they have finally come full circle and now offer a high quality, robust (fat) distribution, like what originally made them popular. The 2007.1 release only continued to improve and polish.
Don't be afraid to try Mandriva. I've tried many different distributions and went elsewhere during their dark days, but I came back. Personally I like it much better than Fedora and especially Red Hat. I consider in on par with Ubuntu for package completeness. And the wizards is a real bonus for most inexperienced users.
I constantly see this touted. I've tried various distributions with different package formats. Frankly I found debian to be the exact same as RPM based systems. Both have their problems. Both have their advantages. Both have pretty much the exact same problems, differing only in implementation details. IMO, to say one is better or worse based only on the package format is to be ignorant of the subject matter. Heck, I actually had a harder time managing packages on debian based systems than I had on RPM based systems at one point in time. And I'm sure the inverse is true for others. It all depends on what you're trying to do.
There is no such thing as a magical package format which makes dogs love cats, in a romantic kind of way. Ultimately, it all boils down to the utilities available to manage those packages. And these days, they are all more or less the same. With tools like urpmi and yum, anyone that has RPM hell is suffering from a self imposed affliction. Heck, it is pretty easy to turn tar files directly into RPMs these days too. Most RPM distros addressed "RPM-hell" some three to five years ago, if not longer. It happened about the time debian guys started claiming they had resolved the issue. Seems so many listened, they missed that most other distributions had too.
I do agree RH (commercial version) was probably the last, or at least one of the slowest, to address this of modern distributions. Not long ago up2date was their tool of choice. These days it is yum.
Long story short, anyone complaining of RPM-hell is either living in the past or flat out suffering from denial.
We know more about Biblical culture now than anyone did in 1611, which affects translation.
This gets moderated troll every time I post it. It is obvious the people moderating are both scared of the truth and have no idea what troll means. Regardless, I'll post again. Surely some will find probable truth interesting rather than be frightened of it.
Based on your comment, this becomes relevant. It is widely believed one of the worst translation errors occurs is that of Noha's Ark. The original translation means the world flooded, which we all know is impossible. It is now believed the proper translation means the entire valley or region flooded, not the world. Meaning, the flood should be regarded as a regional flood of epic proportions but not one of global scale. This change in scope also allows for the animals which would otherwise not been able to fit in the ark to suddenly fit as the variety is drastically reduced. In other words, things suddenly make sense and become believable; assuming one's faith is still in order. To boot, archaeological evidence has been gathered which supports this as the proper translation, based on some assumptions and details provided by the Bible.
People need to keep in mind that back then, "the world" actually meant the region and that there was, in fact, no word which literally meant "the world" as we know it today. The reason being, for most everyone, the entire world was made up of everything in that region and perhaps that of the surrounding regions, if one were well traveled, which was exceedingly rare.
So for a translation to mean "the world" as we understand today it places meaning on it which simply did not exist back when the word was recorded.
Don't let me give you the impression they all make it home. They don't. But Apaches are the A-10s of US helicopters. Regardless, I agree. Stealth aircraft are not falling out of the skies as some of the posters here attempt to cite.
Do Iraqi insurgents even have anti-aircraft weapons?
Absolutely they do, since they are being provided by Syria and Iran. They have managed to shoot down several helicopters. Despite this, simple RPGs have proved to be fairly successful against helicopters, as depicted in movies such as "Black Hawk Down".
During the early days of the war, the Apache proved its metal. Several Apaches received direct hits by RPGs. One received a RPG hit on its FLIR system, which is the bulb on nose. The second received an RPG hit in the transmission. The pilot performed an emergency landing, jumped out while under small arms fire, sized up the situation, grabbed tranny fluid from in-ship stores, added many quarts of fluid (I have no idea exactly how much), and flew it back to base. The other Apaches offered close air support during the tranny refill. Apaches can actually fly with zero tranny fluid for some period of time before chewing it self to death. I've been told the documented duration but I simply can't remember. I know this because my brother is an Apache Longbow pilot. He has spent some time in Iraq.
Needless to say, "fag-hawks", as the Apache pilots lovingly referred to them are clearly not in the same class of robustness as Apaches.
Several years later in the Balkan war, our own stealth fighter was downed reportedly with Russian technology.
To which I call BS. The shoot down was not a technology failure. The shoot down was a tactical failure of the worst kind. If your commanders REQUIRE that your super secret plane flies the exact same route, while low to the ground, day in and day out, over populated areas which can observe this pattern, guess what, you can create an ambush for it. No super secret Russian technology required. As a result, the plane was shot down but firing a large number of visually aimed missiles. Basic math and physics won.
Mandated operating procedures were changed and heads did roll. The cause of the shoot down was American stupidity and not a Russian developed, anti-stealth, counter measure. The Russians did loot the crash site afterwards to obtain material samples.
Actually, they could go with a sessionless protocol (which they might) and that the server receives an announcement packet, which then gets "responded" to when email arrives. Then the originator responds with a new announcement packet when it's received the entire file, thus indicating receipt and kicking off the entire cycle again. That's far different than "push"....;)
You will be hearing from my attorneys you insensitive clod.;)
Most "geeks" I've ever known or met often may suffer social ineptitude, but across the broad spectrum, geeks, IMO, seem the least likely to be the type to pull these ripoffs.
That's because, IMHO, the article is completely misleading. Most of these guys are not geeks. Heck, most of these guys make script kiddies look like geniuses. They do this stuff because they believe it makes them look starter and elevates them. To be clear, IMO, we are talking about two different categories of people.
She wasn't making any money from the sharing, and technically speaking, her leaving the p2p app open could be construed as "public broadcasting" of the music, since she didn't have any prejudice when it came to who she shared with.
I'm not sure where we are on legal grounds here but broadcasting requires active effort. Sharing is a passive effort. They are completely different.
I'd bet money if an investigation into the FAA were performed, the same type of screwing of the public would be discovered. Right now the airlines, working with the FAA, are doing everything possible to screw over the paying public and to get out from under government funding oversight. Meanwhile hundreds of millions of the FAA's funding go unaccounted.
You want dangerous skies, higher ticket prices, and less government oversight of the airlines, make sure you don't do anything to contact your representatives.
In that case, I think we are both assuming things that are not accurate. I'm neither a new slashdot reader, nor do I have a lack of understanding about the term "troll" (I was a heavy poster on Kuro5hin for a number of years, if that means anything to you).
That place has gone down hill much faster than/. Kuro5hin is a troll training camp. So it would seem you have lots of experience will trolls. Perhaps that's why you gave me the benefit of doubt.
The U.N. says that terrorism is
Broader definitions include the simple threat of violence. Which is why "violence" usually includes the threat of violence or even simple aggression. I bet you're surprised about that.;) This includes calling in empty bomb threats. No actual violence occurred but if the threat resulted in changed behavior, it was a successful terrorist action. Other examples include hijacking airplanes, with no actual violence. Prior to 9/11, it was actually the exception for people to be kill/injured unless you look back at the '70s. This is why people were taught to be quiet and comply; because likely you was escape from the ordeal unharmed. Yet the masses here seemingly do not believe hijacking a plane qualifies as a terrorist action; and it doesn't unless you understand violence can include the simple act of implied violence or aggression.
As for creating a bomb hoax: that's open to interpretation. From my reading of the article, and the lady in question, she appears to like wearing, creating and using tech-art for her own reason.
Find people that do no work in the tech field. You find almost everyone agrees that is not art; rather, it's a bomb. You and I know it looks like "geek-art"; albeit very lame "art". I at least know to never wear something like that to the airport; but then again, I'm not an idiot and I'm a pilot. You'll find this reaction is common because it is the common movie exposure most have to a jury-rigged explosive device (IED) hooked to C4. When you factor in the fact she had play-doh which she was actively playing with around the device and had no explanation, it's obvious she intended to fuck with people by giving the impression she had an explosive device and C4.
Lastly, contrary to be many, many, many insanely stupid remarks made here (no necessarily by you), no-fly lists have nothing to do with terrorists. People who create a public disturbance either in an airport or on a plane, can be placed on a no-fly list.
My over the top reaction is fueled by the stupidity of the masses and everyone's willingness to project this stupidity and ignorance. If one then goes about correcting them, the posts are labeled troll. Frankly, I'm amazed at the general stupidity, lack of knowledge, and just general talking out ones ass which is common on this subject...not to mention the just plain illogical conclusions drawn here about any 9/11 links or what qualifies for no-fly lists and/or terrorism.
Personally, I think that you are ranting a little here, but maybe that's just me.
I most certainly was. This is/. after all. If you remove the rants, moronic, and ignorant/uninformed comments, you'll find most articles only have one or two comments left behind.
Then safe you are. Sadly, you like so many other young/. readers don't know what troll means. Trolling does not mean someone wrote something controversial or that they have a differing opinion on a subject. Period. I'm not trolling. It's just most of the/. readership, such as yourself, who no longer understand what trolling means, have redefined it out of ignorance. Which then feeds more ignorance into the ignorant/. mass, which is sadly reaching critical mass.
You might think otherwise, but at the end of the day she shouldn't be banned from the airport as she is NOT a terrorist.
One has nothing to do with the user. But, if you bother to look up the word, you'll find she actually IS a terrorist. She is actually the text book definition of a terrorist. What she is not, is the classical raving terrorist waving guns, killing people, blowing up things, and scaring people with violence. She went there with a "bomb-like" device on her shirt and s substance which could be confused for explosives to an untrained eye. She was unresponsive to questions about the device or substances in her hand. She could not even explain why she had the play-doh and why she was actively playing with it near the device.
You don't think she terrorized the people that were left to ponder the situation? Obviously people were scared enough the police were called and they were called in under the understanding they had a possible suicide bomber on their hands...which she met a valid description.
Guess what, it is a federal crime to even joke about bombs in an airport. Guess what, that law has been on the books for decades and it has zero to do with 9/11. So regardless if YOU consider her a terrorist or not, she most definitely deserves to be treated very harshly for her crude joke.
So the facts we have: She is a terrorist as best and and really fucking stupid idiot at worst She knowingly created a bomb hoax; violating federal law The police were called in because she scared the shit out of people when she initiated contact but refused to answer any questions about the device.
Please...go look up the word terrorist. Please, go learn about federal laws in question. Please, go read about WHY these laws are in effect.
Now then, does she deserve to be tossed in jail forever? Hell NO! Should be be made an example of? Absolutely, in the worst possible way! She terrorized people. She is a terrorists. She violated a very reasonable federal law. She violated common sense. She is a fucking moron and should be seriously punished. With any luck she'll get kick out of MIT to boot.
These issues have been reported for years and years now. The fact horrible memory leaks still exist simply underscore how crappy the Firefox coders really are. Putting that into perspective with the fact that Firefox is typically on par or better the IE, really has profound implications for the MS IE developers.
Agreed since what I stated was true several decades ago too. People need to realize that strapping a fake bomb on your body at an airport is a great way, and always has been, to get your fucking brains justifiably blown out of your skull. Only a really fucking stupid idiot would do what she did. Only a really fucking stupid idiot would think what she did isn't serious.
Yet according to you, the police have telepathic helmets and are explosives experts, and can determine she is no threat a fraction of a second after making contact.
Almost everything you stated is an inane rambling on subjects which have nothing to do with the topic at hand. Worse, you redress me for topics I never said or implied. I can only say you are far, far out of touch with reality. Your irrational anger is obvious and out of control. You incorrectly make crazy assumptions and project them on me. You want to live in your imaginary world, fine, but don't project your delusions on to me and expect I'll go along for the ride.
Before I leave you, here's some homework so you can sit at the table with the rest of us adults. o We are at war...go learn about this. Ponder what this means. You might even want to learn about a common weapon used by our enemies. o What she did has been a federal crime long before 9/11; so your 9/11 BS is just that. Grow up...read...learn...use your head if you have one. o It's obvious she intended to commit a federal crime during a time of war. She should be made an example of.
Ponder the obvious facts and implications. Then go read some more. Please ignoring the rest of the stray ramblings you have running through your head at this time as I can assure you, based on your previous posting, they are completely irrelevant.
Very informative. Thanks.

This is
At the risk of replying to a troll
/. readers don't know what troll means. Trolling does not mean someone wrote something controversial or that they have a differing opinion on a subject. Period. I'm not trolling. It's just most of the /. readership, such as yourself, who no longer understand what trolling means, have redefined it out of ignorance. Which then feeds more ignorance into the ignorant /. mass, which is sadly reaching critical mass.
Then safe you are. Sadly, you like so many other young
So the facts we have:
She is a terrorist as best and and really fucking stupid idiot at worst
She knowingly created a bomb hoax; violating federal law
The police were called in because she scared the shit out of people when she initiated contact but refused to answer any questions about the device.
Wow. I think I just scared my self.
Priceless.
