They all knew I had a family and could not experience all the single-guy-out-on-the-town stuff. I instead, genuinely, showed interest in hearing about their antics, which they enjoyed sharing with me. I also kept up on all the newest techniques and news of the languages and frameworks we used. Thus instead of "old guy" I became the quasi guru. Having a beard helps.

One of my Reason 3 cds was scratched pretty bad and I was unable to read the data from it. (Sorry about the preposition grammar mistake.) On a recommendation from a friend I used some generic furniture polish (Food Lion brand) and rubbed a small amount with a micro-fiber cloth from the center out over the scratches and it has worked great for over a year now. It also has a faint lemony scent now.

Interesting. Thanks for the information. RTLinux will be my next experiment. Although our music can be a bit abstract and a few clock errors may make it more interesting :)

I have been composing and performing with midi for about 15 years and using computers live for about 10 years. I usually use a rack mounted standard PC for all of my VST instruments via V-Stack. I may start using Kore but I just started messing with it.

The main problem with laptops is most come with less than stellar sound devices. Some come with 24-bit spdif outs but still suffer from noticeable latency which makes live performance difficult at best. There are a good number of external sound devices available for laptops out now but I have yet to see one that has made me confident enough to move away from my road case rack. Plus it looks cool to show up at a gig with a road case full of esoteric lights and whistles.

Now if someone would just write a VST interpreter that will run in Gentoo I will be pooping with joy.

    My keyboard rig:
Old ass Kawai K-4 as controller (Per note aftertouch)
P4 3GHz with Delta 1010 for sound device
Tascam TMD-1000 mixer for external effects

The average /. reader (with the exception of the mac people) knows his rubber booties from his rambus and I am assuming has a PC. So do we really need to upgrade an xBox? I have an xbox and think its groovy but I would rather spend time and geld trickin' out my PC and plugging it into my TVs DVI input. Faster machine, better online play and no credit card rape from xbox live. Come on, from $50 for a year to fiddy a month!? I guess BG needs a new pair of gold plated shoes. My god but I am rambling. I apologize.

OK, so Project is not the best example. The truth is I have only toyed with it so my impression is more from the MS propaganda (or BS propaganda if you will) than actual practice.

In regard to the firing, the president of the company would sit in on the meetings once a week and look just as annoyed as the rest of us. I would hear him later talking about the time wasted.

  13. Useless meetings can be grounds for removal on The Useless Meeting Wack Jobs · · Score: 5, Insightful

My old boss was fired I believe solely on the basis that the engineering meetings we were having were useless. It was actually quit sad. He had the meetings mostly to just keep up with the progress of our assorted projects. The fact is all the projects were so distant from each other that most of us just sat around listing to
reports that had nothing to do with us for over an hour. If you manage well meetings can be kept to a minimum. Also their are so many project software packages out there (MS Project 2004 "shudder") that meetings are becoming more extraneous.
