    think more along the lines of this scenario:

    client of software company PROPRIETARY has the p series and wants to run the software on the p series. PROPRIETARY company says sure but pay up. the cost of compiling the software on the p series could be in the range of "provide us the p series machine" to "pay us millions muwahahah"

    and before you say the scenario is impossible. think again. i m living it. so if the cost of the program is the cheapest between the three alternatives....

    ah the failure of democracy
    the wikipedia i have always maintained is not a reliable source of information. for starters it is not always accurate and furthermore, it is sometimes biased in some of its articles. and yes that makes the entire source suspect. how can u trust any article if some are and some are not?

    so how did this come about?
    well firstly wikipedia promotes free speech. so somebody could come along and write an article, with "proof" about anything he likes, like how to create a rock from water. (go do some research before you rebut!)
    secondly, wikipedia, promotes democracy. so if someone comes along and writes an article on why the sky is blue, the article could eventually turn out to be a thesis that is said to be proven on how some guy came along and painted the sky blue. how? coz if enough ppl or editors let this second interpretation stand long enough, and enough ppl fight for this second interpretation; the truth will be lost.

    fact and the weakipedia do not mix, and yes you sure can quote me!

    its not the word of god, its a biography of jesus and what ALLAH told him. by paul and mark and matthew and ...
    oh and also it wasnt translated correctly by king james ii et al (how many hundreds of years and what kind of mutation did the meanings of those words go thru?)
    plus the translators had a bias and a direction to their translating

    as far as i know the most accurate gospels would be the red sea scrolls and the gospel of barnabas.
    what never heard of them? i wonder why the pope dint tell u about them ...

    for god's sake ppl. use your head when you talk about free speech. there are limits to free speech. you cant go up to a stranger and start insulting him or lie about about some famous person in the newspaper.

    think about your children. think about the ppl who give mobile/cell phones to their kids to always keep in touch with them. are you going to give your kid the ability to watch porn on their phones?

    in singapore around the late 90's it became illegal to sell gum chewing or bubble gum. this law was written due to keep the city and the metro lines clean. however, it was still legal for anybody to carry and chew gum. same scenario

    i am just wondering but say this situation turns up:

    a company holds a patent on an invention. due to the nature of the patent (all encompassing or nearly so) there is no possible clone/alternative etc. meaning that now the company holding the patent is the sole provider of that invention/service/etc

    how does that tie in with the antimonopoly laws of the world?

    unfortunately, we have a test scenario with one developer trying to create a program that will run on both windows primarily and linux in the second place. if it works the application will be kept on linux. but his development platform and primary objective is windoze.

    i know of at least 2 colleges (or it might be the english language teachers) who refuse to use wikipedia as a reference to any paper. i also do not trust the wikipedia for the following reasons: 1. the student can create his own article to use as a source 2. the source of the article is a group of ppl. all of whom login with a username which is not necessarily reflective of their real names. 3. the authors may not be authorative on the subject 4. the article may be biased towards the author's point of view 5. the article may be relative to the time it was written but not historical or current 6. a group of authors may bully an independent author from re-editing an article to another point of view/accuracy etc. 7. those that decide the article may be inaccurate are mainly from a similar background and not reflective of the world. in short, the wikipedia is a failed experiment
