  1. TIVO fees with DirecTV on Can TiVo be Saved? · · Score: 1

You cant really look at it as a $9.98 charge though ($4.99 additional reciever fee $4.99 DVR service fee) for 2 reasons. First: If this is your only reciever or your primary reciever, you are not paying the $4.99 additional reciever fee. Second: if it is your second reciever you would be paying the additional reciever fee even if you didnt have a DVR reciever. The $4.99 DVR service fee covers the DVR funcionality for all the recievers on your account, so you only need to pay it once. Also the DVR service fee is waived if you subscribe to DTVs Total Choice Premier package which includes all the premium services (HBO, Showtime...) for $90.99 with local channels.

Actually the roots of the term Hooah are unknown. There has been speculation that the term Hooah originated in WWII, When troops were told about particularly dangerous missions and they would reply with "Who, us?" As far as an actually definition, http://www.amc.army.mil/amc/rda/rda-ap/hooah.html does a good job defining it, it means alot more than Heard, Understood, and Acknowledged.

2 uses: first, I am in the army. this would be great for use in desert regions where equipment is subjected to sand, dust, wind and rain. Also, I tend to drop things in the field. In the desert electronics have a very short lifespan. I saw plenty of TVs and playstations stop working in Afghanistan, and my laptop has numerous problems. Second, I am an artist. My PDA never enters my studio out of fear of contact with oil paint, water, and turpentine, it would be great to have a PDA that I could jot down notes and whatnot with in the studio.

The problem there is that some people join the project, but then loose interest. I am not sure if there is any way to solve this problem, but it is obnoxious. It does need to be shown to people. I do not know about any funding for such undertakings, but it seems like it would be available. I would recommend the OOo marketing mailing list [dev@marketing.openoffice.org] as a starting point. Anything there seems to get alot of attention. Another good way to get open source out to communities is to contact the local library and see if they would be willing to put a couple of CDs out. Then provide them with the CDs and updates whenever available. Good luck with the project.

I agree, I often tell my friends about open source, especially OOo and Mozilla. Some of them use it, but many are just content to use whatever their computer came with. Word of mouth is the best way to spread open source, but it takes a very long time for it to reach a large audience that way, compared to large marketing schemes, where the audience knows about a program (like MS Office) immediatly.

I wouldnt say. It is hard to convert people from Enlish mesurement to metric measurement because they are completely different standards. It requires people to adjust their perception of size and distance. OOo uses a very similar interface and layout to MS Office, so it is very easy to switch from one to another.

biggest thing that I can think of would be tablet PC support. MS Office has it, OOo doesnt, but I have heard that they are working on it.

I wish that were true. No, neither better quality and free nor good enough and free will make OOo succeed MS Office. People need to see OOo. MS Office has a very broad marketing foundation. They have the money to put their product right in your face, whether it is the better product or not. Most people are just lazy enough that they will take that product that is right in their face saying "Im the best, I promise" rather than seeking an alternative.

" Their goal is to cause chaos, to make people live their lives differently, by what the terrorists dictate."
Partially true. But not entirelly. I have seen Al-Quaeda documents that have a picture of the globe with a sword through it. I have read parts of an Al-Quaeda training manual that says:
"The main mission for which the Military Organization is responsible is:
The overthrow of the godless regimes and their replacement with an Islamic regime."
And the methods listed for accomplishing that mission are horrendous.
These people really believe that they can destroy us, and that is their goal. I do not believe in giving up my basic freedoms, but I do believe in taking action to make sure the world is free of these terrorists. We need to go on with our lives, but we need to do so in caution. We cannot let down our guard and allow these people to continue training and plotting against us. We need to do exactly what we are doing in the Middle East right now.
And no, I do not believe they want us to fight back. They just want us to cower in fear and leave ourselves venerable to more attacks. They do not want us to defeat them on their own ground. Their plan doesnt work if they are all dead or in prison, nor does it work when they have no organization. Do you think the Al-Quaeda in Afghanistan and Pakistan can spend much time planning for an attack on American soil if they are too busy worried about trying to lash out at our bases in Afghanistan? I dont.
