I'd rather see the Chinese do the software instead. Because Indians (many of whom sincerely think Indian programmers are the best in the world) are nowhere to be found on the list of winners, year after year. Russia and China pretty much dominate everything. Say what you will, but this is very telling about the quality of education.
I was once denied entry in one of those because the teacher was an American who selected all 4 American students for the contest... even though I was way better at programming than any of them.

"East is east and west is west and never the twain shall meet." That's the reason in a nutshell. Hardly a 19th century construct; the idea that Eurasia should be divided dates back to the ancients.

I have to agree with this. Although I'm an one of those myself, I hate to say that almost 99% of us are horrible programmers.

With increasing quality conscience in management in India and China, these things are bound to change.
And when the same students start working in the US, you sulk over losing jobs to *immigrants*.
