Actually, I used Open Office 1.1.4 for writing my masters thesis. It has all the features I needed.
People around the world must really be wasting their money on MS Office. No matter what price they pay for it.
You've got to be kidding. Why do you think MS Office does _not_ feature PDF-export like OpenOffice?
It's because MS wants the DOC-format to be standard, _not_ PDF. If PDF becomes the standard for reports, resumes, theses etc. Then MS Office will become less important ==> Less used ==> Less bought.
I installed the "basic" Firefox. And the only extension I had to download was Flash and it was completely automatic.
I think this is the impression that people mostly get out of Firefox. For guys like you, there will always be the need for a little twinkling here and there.
I don't understand why they want to restrict Microsofts products in any way.
Why not just demand that server protocols and office files use "free to read" specifications so that people can buy any type of PC they want without having problems.
> You can burn or rip from withing amaroK
Really? Wasn't amaroK going to be that neat tidy music app without unnecessary stuff in it?
I guess they slipped on the keyboard.
Seems like it isn't about putting an easy-to-use computer on every mans desk anymore.
No no, now it's about putting _his_ windows computer on every mans desk, in every mans hand, mobile phone, game, and god knows what's coming up the abyss next.
Can't you all see? The man's gone completely mad!
I suppose DSPAM can inform the receiver then, that an e-mail was filtered out?
Somebody would need to know, if it was one of those filtered out by mistake.
Wow, KDE is really going to expand their user-base. That's for sure.
> ... quality of tools ... Microsoft Visual ...
Hahaha.
> they really don't have much of a choice other than to use Gnome.
Obviously, there is at least one other choice. KDE.
Great, so now MS cannot argue that all OS Office suits are based on the same OO.
Seems like the redundancy among OS Linux software projects has showed to be an ace in the poker-hand.
Guess this proves those people wrong that argue that more than one Office (or whatever project) is just a waste of time and duplicate effort.
You never know when one or the other might come in handy...
> Because that really means, "productive people working for the sake of slackers."
Not all software users are software engineers. Some are highly productive in other areas.
> If you don't like that people JUST obey the license, then change the license!
You are 100% correct.
If KDE don't want this to happen. Then they should use the GPL license for their libraries. Not the LGPL.
Gates and his MS has already fulfilled their purpose, to put a computer "in all mans office".
Their time has passed. Now begins a new era.

You're nowhere near to the truth!

Is this the new look of KDE?
I must say, it looks nothing but beautiful. Will surely make good first impressions.
Man, compared to their 1.x releases, they've reached another magnitude of beautiness .
I guess what he really means is:
If they don't have Win XP, they're obsolete.
You mean like a daughter company? No, that would not be allowed.
:-)
Anyway, I'm not presenting the perfect and final legislation right here and now on slashdot.
Why not restrict software patents to smaller start up companies? For a 7 year patent time or so?
These large corporations dont seem to help humanity in any way. Cutting of jobs, threatening governments? It's getting out of control.
Smaller businesses, on the other hand, could produce more jobs and don't jam up the justice system suing anyone against them.
A toolkit (such as GTK) being LGPL:d means that a company can make a comemrcial app _without_ giving back nothing to the community!
Their next step would be to advertise the hell out of their competition. Does that ring a bell somewhere?? MS...
That's what LGPLD libraries will do to Open Source man.
Ever heard of the "My baby" syndrome? Frequent problem in systems design, I think.

And Macintosh is _the_ most userfriendly, and _the_ most usable interface for _all_ possible situations.
Please, there simply is no "one size fits all" here.
You actually thought that they would use some secure, reliable, and small piece of code, just for doing the voting.
But I guess M$:s influence is everywhere these days...

Does DSPAM inform the sender that his/her e-mail has been filtered out?
> per capita GDP
Don't be too quick to use that as a measure of wealth.
Take a look at the "GDP per capita" of Luxembourg, then take a look at the "Labor force", and you'll see what I mean.
Everything MS can do against competitors without getting sued, they will do.
