Sad as it may seem, the federal government (as screwed up as it is) is the only body that could possibly keep these fuckers in check. Your proposal would make the federal government weaker which would in turn make the Wall St. asshats stronger which in turn screws us all.

The "style" of the furniture in an office doesn't mean crap if the people are assholes and the policies oppressive. This article is about as asinine as the one a few months back attempting to explain why techies never make it in the boardroom... and proceeded to list off ten fashion faux pas.

Our friends at Slashdot really should re-title this piece as "Top 10 best looking tech workplaces"... otherwise, they're just being terribly disingenuous.
Another thing is, if everyone is going 15 mph above the limit and there's one guy who insists on going exactly the limit, that person is creating a safety hazard as everyone tries to pass him. Which is ever so common if you've ever driven on a Houston freeway (just to bring things closer to being back on topic).
Since the store most likely shares the parking lot with a number of other merchants, the parking lot is construed as a public thoroughfare (otherwise, the police wouldn't be involved with any traffic accidents therein).

Actually.... The FTC (I think) made it a requirement. If TW wanted to provide AOL over its cable network (in lue of RoadRunner) then they would also have to allow a handful of other competitors. This was all part of the AOL/Time Warner merger agreement

So, that "4% of the total tax revenue" is made up of how much of their expendable income? I'd hasten to guess... ALL OF IT.
The taxes on someone making minimum wage are a MUCH bigger burden to them than are the taxes on someone making $100k+/yr (even if they are in a higher bracket).
So... don't even start to say anything like "poor people should be thankful they're only paying 4%" (which is what you implied). They're only paying 4% because that's all they've got!

As to the morons on Mythbusters... they don't conduct anything that closely resembles science and their conclusions are tenuous at best.
