Seriously, if you want the best phone you can buy for most circumstances the iPhone is the way to go. Version 5 should have resolved any teething problems and there is a long way to go for Google to reach that point of maturity in its mobile OS.
The Pirate Bay is already blocked by the major providers in Italy, for much the same reasons I suspect: total control over Italian media consumption by BS (Berlusconi Silvio).
I live in Italy, and the lack of unbiased information is incredible - half the population really believe that the press are under communist control and that journalists have an axe to grind with Berlusconi. The other half disagree and the result is a country that is incredibily polarized and divided - over Berlusconi.
The best thing for Italy would be for him to die quickly for as long as he lives he will be able to hide and manipulate information - a perfect modern Machiavelli.
There certainly must be potential, but the end-all device currently is the pc (or mac) for access to web based tv.
We live abroad and use a computer to watch dutch, swedish and Italian TV and a VPN to connect to BBC iPlayer and 4OD. Once you get past the slightly lower quality there is no going back to not-on-demand TV.
If only the new AppleTV would include a browser and Flash / Silverlight... It would be perfect for my purposes.
Flamebait me if true! I have not been asked to moderate in years.

I had the same experience with Mac. I only bought a Mac when they released them with Intel chips and got mine with VMware straight away as I had many licensed Windows programs.
However, it did not take long to let go of Windows programs, but the option being there made the switch less daunting.
I have a cracked back on iPhone 3gs, cracked back and front on 2007 MacBook (been replaced in warranty once - not worth pursuing again), and a pile of (wired and wireless) 'Mighty' Mice where the scroll wheel doesn't work (knows issue). My father has an iMac with weird lines in the display (also known issue).
I have improved On that setup with Bluetooth input devices. Also, Apple monitors have had USB sockets for a while now, but are not exactly reasonably priced.
So I plug in only power and video, not too much hassle but decidedly unrefined by other apple standards.
There is right balance in there somewhere, and it is not the same for everybody. Remember we are only talking about a new technology here that enables communication in a slightly changed way from what was previously possible. It is a bit unknown and therefore perhaps a bit scary. You'll get used to it.
People were scared of printed press and got used to it. Radio, TV, www, email, IM, they all had people against it for a number of reasons and in all cases you can still control your own actions. Participate - or not.
In fact it is slightly ironic that you are ranting on a public forum. I can see your interests, your peeves, your friends, and will be able to deduct a lot about you if I cared (I don't).
The article makes it sound like a breakthrough by Apple but videocalling has been around for at least 3 years in Italy and has not taken on for a variety of reasons, the main one being that it does not solve a problem the user has.
Video skype is popular amongst families distributed over various countries mostly because it is free. I don't know, but I think international mobile videocalls are probably not free or cheap.
I had a Nokia e61 with a front facing camera for years and have not used it even once.
I have chosen Mac Pc's for our small company (5 workstations) and have not replaced them in 4 years, and don't look to replace them for another few. That is one way we save money. The other is that we have simple functioning backup with time-machine, hosted Exchange support and no problems with virus etc which we did have before the switch. Being the owner of the business and the most computer savvy I really don't like having to dedicate time to IT other than initial setup of something. And time = money.
It looks like the smart guys at NASA agree with many of us 'dotters
Nerds agreeing with nerds, very strange indeed.

Everybody knows mice and keyboards are only Bluetooth.

I also have a pile of Microsoft software that didnt work as excpected and a collection Linux disks and books that were great fun when I had the time.
For a small company, whilst not perfect, Apple is the way to go.
This one unreliable product

My other macs are great however.
Why did I think the post was related to FaceBook?
Interesting read.
Jawn. Who cares where geeks go? Particularly which multinational corporation they 'love', 'prefer' or 'adore'?
These companies make products and services, if they are good value people will use them, if not they have to come up with something else.
The only company I distrust is Microsoft, and I stopped using their products years ago due to shoddy quality, unreliability and terrible security.
it works really well on an old MacBook without dedicated 3D graphics (Intel something)
... another cable.

My private contacts are kept on the only physical media I trust, my brain.
Why? Do you require your private contacts (if any) to do the same?
It's give and take and it is optional.

Dennis.
They're spending fortunes on ads, right now, they must have the money to spare. I don't think they've considered what they're doing
They own the online advertising platform, and it is well possible they are filling the gaps in advertising created by the recession.

Seriously, if you have a couple of people in an office and no full time admin Macs save you a small fortune.
So, fit for business? Yes.
Ready for the enterprise?
Yes. Our sales people will use it to give presentations whilst on the road.
Simplicity and hopefully a great screen will make for a perfect mobile presentation platform.
Nice toy.
Is the OS a preview of Marble, what with all the dark task bars and so?
