I think they made it quite a bit stricter on some inline asm things, which broke some parts of the kernel. pre-2.2 kernels has "DO NOT COMPILE WITH EGCS" all over em or something:)
I think a simple defense against this could be aluminum foil, ground yourself and shield against the RF part of it.
It seems very similar to Quake's lightning gun, infact I once suggested that this might be how it worked (drunk, in a pub. The topics you get are amazing)
yeh, it means they have some ownership of the company. However, directors have a tendancy to keep a controlling interest (>50% in theory, but you can usually get away with 35%)
Besides, the work they've done is GPL'd so we wont loose it anyhow.

i know the internet worm wasnt a real virus, but it had the same kind of effect. That's ages old.
This is what VNC was based on. When ORL (Now owned by AT+T) made it, it was for a very simple portable computer. The system was called Teleport
