I think you have missed the point... it's not a binary vs. source thing here, it the fact that there are so many different flavors of linux that it is overwhelming for a developer to release a different package for each one (including ebuilds!). I use Gentoo, but I think Autopackage is a great thing for the ENTIRE Linux community instead of just a single distro like all prior solutions...
I think with Autopackage giving developers the freedom to make one installation package for all distros, it's going to make Linux really take off this year. The huge number of incompatable distros scares off many companies and developers, so maybe this will be the answer we've been looking for...
I'm a gentoo user as well, but I'm very excited by Autopackage. The whole reason many people use gentoo is b/c it is so easy to install software. The main problem with that system is that someone has to add it to the portage tree, and if it's not popular enough, it won't get in... with Autopackage you put the installation in the developers hands and you no longer have to rely on your distro to do it for you. I say use Portage/Apt/Whatever for your system/low-level programs and use autopackage for your higher level ones (Firefox, Gaim, GIMP, etc)...Autopackage could finally be the answer many Windows users have been waiting on to make the switch!
Patents!Gasp!...you did NOT just use that word on Slashdot! lol...
*As a side note: Patents are fine for small independant inventors...it's just when corporations and whatnot get involved that it becomes inherently evil.;)
Don't forget that the DS isn't even 6 months old yet! How long did it take before the first decent PS2 game came out? Well over a year. Ports are an obvious choice for launch because they're quick and easy, and already proven to sell well... You'll see alot more cool stuff in the years to come:)
I actually think I like the UMD's design...but I do hate that it's proprietary. CD's and DVD's are extremely easy to scratch, so a nice protective shell around them is very welcome...in fact, didn't the first CD's come with caddies? What ever happened to those? I want them back!

Great game... I can't wait for the Xbox re-release. Story was a huge part of the game. Every task, no matter how weird or silly had some sort of purpose in the story:)
Actually many many people believe using the same in game model graphics helps the game feel like one solid piece instead of a two completely different experiences. Sure a couple seconds of prerendered eye candy can be nice, but it reminds you subconciously that this is a movie and you are no longer playing the game...
Agreed, FF7 was a huge disappointment. Sure it had nice new (at that time) pretty graphics and whatnot, but the story was pretty bland and the only character I gave a crap about, they went and killed:(
That's fine for advanced users who can handle the command line but what about the remaining 97% of the world?

It's not friendly to any project, closed or open...that's why Autopackage is such a great idea :)

WARNING! Pez Mp3 player is not recomended for use by children under the age of 10...
More importantly, can it play Ogg Vorbis??? ;)
hmm.... I wasn't aware of that, I assumed it just had a sliding door. That does sound pretty stupid...

Yes, sony are geniuses...as seen here...lol
The pictures of how the X button barely lines up with it's censor still concern me more...
That would equal almost $228 million in a year. Maybe my numbers weren't so dramatic after all ;)
and yes...I do realize my server price estimates were a little off...
My manager had a masters in Anthropology...shows how much that was worth :P
It was an inside job...
If they took the real terrorists out of office I might feel a little safer ;)
If everyone bought their games online, you could just cut out the publisher too...
I honestly don't see how these science films could be "controversial" to any religious groups? At least not from the descriptions given...
