Unless the trojan was meant to kill the system, you wouldn't need root permissions
Heres a short little list of things a program/trojan/virus/worm could do with out root access: 1.) Delete all your files (maybe not system files, but I bet you would be pissed when you loss every file you have that you have write access to) 2.) Run a proxy server 3.) Run a mail server for spammers 4.) Purposly bog down the system 5.) Change all your settings (like make the language chinese, or the wall paper gay porn) 6.) Shutdown the computer/restart/log-out 7.) Give remote control to some other person 8.) And and everything else you can do w/o putting in the password
Oh and I bet it would be easy to fake the admin password box and trick people to put it in (only useful if u want to modify files current user doesn't have write access to, or want to open a port =1024)
So now Mac users think they are 1337?
I have 2 computers I use most every day, one is my Windows box, its slower and older than my other one, but I use it for most of my games, I don't have any stability issues (can't remember a BSOD that wasn't a result of buying discount defective hardware).
My other computer is a _Dell_ laptop, it runs Fedora Core 1, and has a much faster processor (ok I haven't upgraded my other computer in a long time, and when I upgraded it, I just added a AIW ATI video card that wasn't really faster than my old one).
I think probobly most of the BSODs that people get are caused by:
1.) Defective hardware/bad drivers
2.) Viruses screwing up your system
3.) Defective programs having fun with your registry/system files
4.) End-User stupidity
5.) Software installed by companies selling computers *cough*dell*cough*
6.) RealPlayer *cough*dell*cough*
"Of course, my view is if your app needs help files, it's poorly designed to begin with, but still there's nothing about this that is prohibitive to dialup users."
Not all people can use a program the first time they try, somebody has to be buying the Video Professor cds.

I'm the same way, I can quickly navigate all around on my KDE desktop, and on my Windows box (I prefer KDE's method, and sometimes on Windows I have to use third party programs)
When I use my mom's mac (normally to fix it...) I'm always annoyed with the lack of power put into the keyboard.
It took me about 3 years to get my mom to try to use Mozilla, now she loves it after only a few days.
Actually, the date that it was on a Linux machine (apparent from when the vi core dump was created) was before when it got the virus that created all the.eml files... just get the file listing, and look at the dates
Of course that doesn't mean it couldn't of been on a Linux machine at a latter date (also doesn't mean it couldn't of been on a Windows machine) when it was leaked.

the XPS has the p4 extreme edition, people laughed when Liebermann claimed they made one
heres a little quote from The Register:
"The Inspiron XPS will features the upcoming 3.4GHz P4EE, though you can also choose one based on the (cheaper) vanilla 3.4GHz P4. Each model has a 128MB ATI Mobility Radeon 9700 to power its 15.4in display, 512MB to 2GB of 400MHz DDR SDRAM, a 7200rpm 60GB or 5400rpm 80GB hard drive, and a DVD+RW, +R drive. "
they will also upgrade the video card for free once a better one comes out
With the exception of TVs I avoid all sony products like the plauge, they tend to be overpriced (especially anything computer related), way overpriced.
someone should compare the dates of the core dump file w/ that of the ones created by the virus (.eml files)
if the core dump is older that will lower the chances of it being on a linux box
They could improve WINE to the point that Win32 apps would run just as good as if they were on windows.
Thats easy to do:
1.) Take AOL cd
2.) Take a hammer
3.) Smash repeatedly
4.) Smash more
5.) Burn
No AOL user would notice the difference

the 2 highlander movies were rather cool (though I had been up for like 30 hours when I watched them, so I guess I could be wrong...)
And didn't that guy kill the old guy that was in the next movie? How did they kill off the main guy in the PREQUIL? Some day I'll have to watch the series...

actually, apache has 67.20% of all servers, while MS has 21.02%

If you configure User Mode Linux right then it will be a rather light VM.
