    my guess as to the name of taskkill instead of kill is that in vb5, kill is the name of the 'delete file' function, strangely. why? i dont know either.

    its more akin to copying a metallica song, playing it in a cd player and miming it, claiming it as your own and selling it to just copying a metallica cd for a friend or downloading it.

    i use a single cookie, like style=1 or style=2, etc. it really pisses me off that people ruined cookies for people like me.

    i use cookies to remember the stylesheet[*] for a user, but if they dont accept cookies it gracefully falls back to the default (my favourite) stylesheet.

    cookies can be used for good

    [*]especially good for people with bad eyesight

    it pisses me off how cookies are used for evil, but they can have some uses that are great for web developers such as saving a default stylesheet for a user

    i use freepgs, its a one off payment of $3 for the basic service, which comes with mysql, php, ruby support.

    The support is great, i once emailed them asking if it would be possible to install mod_ruby and they emailed back very soon after telling me its installed and i just have to log in and enable it.

    if you have common data on multiple pages, i find its best to write php scripts for those pages, and just do '@include common/menubar.php' or something like that. I wrote an entire site once where each page i would just do:

    @include header.php
    html markup goes here
    @include footer.php

    header.php would include a css stylesheet and draw the top menu and do the stuff. footer.php would draw the side/bottom menu and end the html document

    not that I or google know of, but most people would rather sit through the adverts anyway, a few slashdotters (who could always use a hacked dvd player or a mythtv/xine/freevo box with a tv out anyway) wouldn't make much difference.

    i think voting with molotov cocktails would be more suitable in this case than voting with wallets.

    but they wont(vote with wallets), all the popular films are released with shitloads of unskipable ad's and most people would rather just leave the room when the ads are on. personally i'd rather use xine which lets me skip ads (iirc, although ive not used it for a while)

    just write a script to download the homepage of about a thousand websites (preferably a DDOS of sites like claria(gator)) every minute, if everybody who cared did that, the logs would become far too large to keep.

    There are alternatives, i think there's a blackbox port to windows, and kde 3.4.1 runs under cygwin.

    in 98, you could set the SHELL variable in some config file, im not sure if you can now (i once wrote a replacement shell which i used as the SHELL for fun)

    when i email work to myself (home > college) i send a pdf and a doc, do the same for your tutors, they can see the non screwed up version if theyre not anal.

    if you inherited granny's code, you would own the copyright, so the code would be yours to license under any license you like.
