I have noticed that people do know more about spyware now. for example: y uncle, who doesn't know a great deal about computers said told me that he thinks his computer is full of spyware (i checked, it was) and i dont think anybody told him explicitly that he has spyware.
obviously he didn't take any steps to protect himself until i helped him out, but at least he's aware of it
if the companies were trying to get rid of windows, they could have just installed evolution on their brand new shiney linux boxes, rather than wair for evolution to become available on the platform they currentl use, and then move to linux

no, and example for the, quite large, kdemultimedia (global is how long it took to build all 11 times combined). I'd say 1 hour 8 mins isn't that long, compared to say mandrake who might take weeks to get a new kde version.

A troll, but i'l bite.
I would presume that would be fixed in KDE4, with QT4, which includes hardware acelleration, IIRC

apparently kde is going to be split into individual packages in portage soon, not sure when, not sure if its true. Anyway, that will mean you dont need all of kdenetwork installed if you only use kopete, you'l need qt arts and kdelibs though
Its not just about being able to set compiler flags (although that is a nice feature, for example -pipe will speed up compilation times) and there's always ccache.
Gentoo is about control, being able to compile anything you want, with the exact options you want, with no fuss, it just works.
Also, just to nitpick, open office wont run on a 286 iirc.
Also, have you never heard of multitasking, or are you using a 286 yourself?
I was refering to the repository itself, and the size of it (gentoo-portage.com) also, it doesn't take all that long to compile stuff, unless your on about big packages like kde, and even then you can use the binary, then update using the source while using the binary version.
Or, you could even start it compiling before you go to bed.
Im currently compiling kde 3.4beta, how many distro's could you get kde3.4 beta by just typing a couple of commands on the commandline (or using a nice gui tool if you like - porthole)?
Thats different. Now if a woman was to sit naked in dark back alleys at 3am, beconing over every man that passed, thats her own fault if she gets raped.
This might not be true in all circumstances, but it is for me:
I bought a new computer about 2 years ago, and the psu managed to damage (not completely fry) the motherboard (turned out to the the ram slots). Windows 98SE/2000/XP would fail to install every single time i tried, linux would install and run just fine, with an occasional crash.
Probably just a fluke though - the windows installers tickling the RAM in a particular way.
not as far as i know, no, but i might not have found that feature yet (i used to program in VB5 and have that functionality before i switched to linux completely and ive just started to try to get to grips with _basic_ c++).
If your programming in C++/delphi, kylix (made by borland but its open source, not sure of the license) has that functionality iirc.
have a look at this website (its for gentoo, but there will be packages available for other distro's if you google) http://www.gentoo-portage.com/dev-util
kdevelop does just about every language ever invented and has the kdevelop designer to develop qt3 forms (although qt4 is out later this year, which has some nice fancy stuff in it)
it might actually be profitable to banks who insure their users against online fraud (like halifax in the uk)

if its 20%, thats 1 day a week (presuming a 5 day week), or two afternoons or something.
If you want the personal stuff done in lazy time, do it fridays

Well in the case of Frank Abignail, why the hell would you put a bank robber in a bank vault?

The newer processors have thermal detection - if it gets too toasty, it'l overheat (although you might beable to change the critical point)

Some of the packages above provide an IDE.

eh! sod em. sod everybody on their netmask too.
its always a shame when such a cool company turns into a bunch of arseholes
Prove it.
kdevelop is supposed to be a good IDE, or kylix (dephi/c++).
Also, there's Gamba's, but i think thats only for a BASIC ripoff
Just to nitpick, not that many distro's use XFree86 anymore, they all use xorg.
Any about KDE, what about DCOP
I couldn't realy be bothered picking at all your post, but there's a couple of things.
