    i think i had that OS once too. except you didn't have to recompile the kernel, you typed modprobe $DRIVER where $DRIVER would the the name of the kernel module for that device.

    In this OS you could, afaik recompile the kernel if you wanted, to remove bloat, add some stuff.

    oh, what do you know, im using it right now.

    yes. tmpfs. have a read into it.

    basicly its a dynamicly resizing ramdisk, which you can set a max limit on if you like.

    i use xfs for / and it works great.

    i thought there was a kernel option to get round the 4gig limit, but it turns out i was thinking of this:

    64GB (HIGHMEM64G)

    Select this if you have a 32-bit processor and more than 4
    gigabytes of physical RAM.

    64GB eh? thats in xconfig, before you compile the linux kernel. oh yes i forgot, you cant compile your kernel on windows or support 64gb of ram on windows.

    if your reffering to AIM, use gaim, its soon to have video conferencing functionality compatible with that of the official client.

    if your reffering to AOL the ISP, there's something available to make AOL work on linux but i dont know anything about it.

    If you were 'gladly used MS-DOS' and know that linux looks like unix (and like it), you shouldn't be using AOL anyway - its shit (tried it a few years ago because my dad likes free trials)

    linux isn't a version of unix, its a clone of unix

    yes - golfers should get a life and stop trying to invade my TV.

    I went to the pub to watch the football (soccer) with my dad when i was 14 (17 now) (in a family pub) and the golf was on! We missed manutd play arsenal (or an equally big game).

    On the way home me and my dad agreed that golf was banned - the news even had to be turned over if it was on. Im not sure if he stuck to it but i definately did.

    the nvidia drivers have a binary module and a small bit of OSS code which is used to make the binary module compatible with any linux kernel.

    Its the OSS code which is recompiled, the actual (binary) driver is not recompiled.

    i haven't done any programming for a while. When i get some time, im going to see how feasable it is to write an instant messenging system (with asyncronous encryption) that can work without a server, like p2p. If it wasn't for authentication it wouldn't need a server at all. Any ideas would be great.
