I work as tech support for a hosting company. This lady couldn't get her Frontpage to work so we sent her to MS(we can't support third party apps). MS kept sending her back to us. Eventually, there was a conferance call between us, the caller and MS support(and yes, it was paid ms support, costing teh customer a fortune). After we taught the MS rep how to use Frontpage(as apparently he had never used it or some of his questions would have been less retarded), it started working.
Also, when I worked for a radioshack selling computers(I know, I know....but I was broke), it took me 30 mins of MS paid tech support to finally get a "Maybe" as to wether the basic Works app they license out to Compaq(cuz compaq couldn't tell me and referred me to them)could switch languages from french to english(both official Canadian languages).
think of it this way, once he has the TM, what's stopping him from taking it further. he's demonstrated how sneaky he can be. Once he has legal backing...
1) Why did you register the TM under your name and not Nicola's or the MAME teams's?
2) Why did you keep this secret until it was uncovered nearly a MONTH afterwards?
3) Who told you you could do this?
4) Why didn't you get permission from the COPYRIGHT holder of the mame logo?
5) What right do you have to dictate the ditribution methods of a product not your own.
To me, this letter is a bullshit attempt at justification for what is plainly an act of spite, ill-will and corporate greed. It does nothing to stem the hatred and disrespect this guy so thoroughly deserves.
How's this for hostility? He never contacted the Mamedev team. The claim was kept under wraps and was found by someone else. Mr. Foley would have gotten away with it were it not for that meddling ZD.
Had this been for good intentions:
1) He would have notified the MAME team before someone found out like this(this was filed nearly a MONTH ago) 2) He would have registered the TM under their name(not his). 3) He would have at least contacted the copyright holder of the logo before scanning it and plastering it all cheaply at the USPTO.
To me, the above looks hostile. His letter just sounds like poor justification. to an otherwise slimy act.
That is a blatant troll.
Many Linux advocates don't like current IP laws because shit like this HAPPENS(ie, a company will use IP laws to crush it's competition unfairly).
So yeah, you're not quite seeing the entire picture here...
cell phone spam will drive people to the nut house
it'll cost 2.50$ for someone to share their thoughts with others, or.25$ a minute extra if you are outside or get disconnected from the quadX digital intraweb service
your earlobe will give you cancer
you won't be able to drive on an airplane without a tinfoil hat(to some, this may not be too much of an adjustment)
upgrading your phone will require a scalpel, or at the least a good pearing knife;)
sorry, considering the vast amount of info and proof supplied, this reply you just gave is weak and ignorant. A quick glimpse of what the poster posted and his sources would have addressed the fact that you are mistaken.
Anywhere other then presidential debates, those who use more facts and back it up win.
Well, for one, xp installer forces you to wait 5 secs before you can click install. And even there, you must click the little yellow bar at the top of the page with the plugin\extension warning to load up the pop up asking the question in the first place.
And finally, FF has much less control over your OS as IE does, so any harm from a moron who clicks the yellow bar, waits 5 secs THEN installs the extension, will still be minimal
If they can pull it off, all the better, but I'm still of firm belief that OLED or color-digital-ink will be the only thing to replace CRT in terms of color sharpness once they're actually useable.
They are very invasive. Everywhere you look, there's some piece of them(the MPAA or RIAA) shouting out to you. Some people have time and enough will left to seek alternatives, however, for the common overworked middleman, he decides "I gotta go see a movie to take my mind off things" and the first thing they see(and in many cases, the only thing he sees) is some hollywood mainstream flick.
Or, ads, or other children, tell your kids that '"Kid's Movie #25" must be seen if they want to be cool/see wonders/collect monsters', and they drag you to see that hollywood flic.
I'm not saying that it's completly forced..but it is borderline.

Dance Dance Revolution
It's a game that employs a dance mat in which you flail around like an epileptic at a disco to hit the correct button at the correct time.
It truly is quite fun:) But as the parent mentioned, not quite designed with the differently abled in mind.

also, is trillian affected by this?
so does PlayOnline actually, I can see when people are Playing FF11 or Tetra Master
that's the one:)
I agree. Right down to the original use of camera effects and lack of over-used sci fi sound effects during space scenes. Even the acting is good.
Also...I know this is slashdot and all, but comparing legalities to "Galactica after the Cylon attack" is w-a-a-a-a-a-a-y too geeky;)
Funny...I've installed it and neither ad-aware nor spybot picked up anything....but hey, the MS adware remover has such a great reputation

thanks for the info:)
where is that from? I heard that once(it sounded remarkebly like All your Base), but I never knew what it was called.
trade in your 1 buffer overflow error for hundreds of prettier ones

I would troll you were I given mod points

Don't you love the smell of poetic justice in the morning?:P
correction to above: xpi installer, not xp

Their site...although it doesn't really show any tech in action so it might be vapo

3 words:
"Exact Audio Copy"
EAC detects audio tracks from current CD-ROM/Audio CD hybrids so I doubt very much this would be any different.
And it rips much faster then 1x
That's borderline.
