  1. If it has no tuner, it's a glorified monitor, not a TV. Sucks for people who don't want to bend over and be butt-farked for $200/mo for cable when over-the-air TV is frrrrreeee!

Remove the chip from the manufacturer key. Tape it somewhere inside the car. Now you can duplicate the key cheaply to your heart's content. You lose chip security, but who cares?

  5. Nice thing is that you can whitelist with local storage. Non-US IPs aren't connecting from outside.

  6. Nope.

Back in the day, they cared about their older software and compatibility. They released a (free) package that made Office 2000-2003 able to read and write .docx, .xlsx, .pptx, etc files (2007 and later).

  7. The issue isn't outside (malicious hacker) access to the data. The issue is MS itself having access to it. I'd rather keep mine on-site, where at least I KNOW if it's compromised.

  9. You can still save locally without cloud-fucking your documents, even if you pay monthly. OneDrive is easy to disable.

  10. I use LibreOffice... 90% of the functionality at 0% the cost. Suck on this, M$.

New phones are going to cr@p. There now, I said it. Between no SD slot, no user-replaceable battery, no headphone jacks, and only incremental improvements in speed and utility, why bother?

Electromechanical devices (with moving parts) fail more than a properly designed all-electronic control panel. Key phrase: properly designed.

For what it's worth, quite a few low-end and commercial appliances (e.g. Speed Queen washer/dryers) still have clockwork timers. I'm not sure if they're better than digital. Digital control panels are sealed and have no moving parts -- a well-designed system should last decades and be immune to entry of dirt or liquids.

The calls are often to a NON-EMERGENCY number, since 911 would route it to the SWAT'ter's local 911 service center. Calling a non-emergency number about a life-and-death issue should be a big clue. Apparently, that's what happened in the SWAT'ting that caused a death recently.

  20. Why not just heat the small lense?

Bigger concern is, is this kind of braking possible with a real (i.e. manual) transmission?

  22. Don't drink stuff that rots your teeth then.

  23. Most drinks are refrigerated anyway -- putting ice in them is wasteful anyway and dilutes the taste.

  24. If there's soap on your glass, you're drinking it anyway. Go to a restaurant that washes its glasses correctly :)

  25. Straws have two use cases:
    (1) If you're walking or driving and holding a drink
    (2) If you're disabled.

I never understood why US restaurants gave straws with glasses or cups. If it's not clean enough to drink from, you shouldn't be drinking from it. If it's clean, you don't need a straw.
