US citizens and their government are not the same thing. Judging by the Americans I have met, yes they do understand what democracy means. Their government just uses the word when it suits them to, and it has no bearing on the agenda of the government.
And as for Hew, I hope he doesn't get charged in Australia - not because I believe in piracy, but because the US laws are ridiculous in the first place, and because the US government has no right to impose their wishes on our country.
I used to use a lot of Corel products - WordPerfect, Draw, Paint etc. Corel had the right idea when they initially ported some of these programs to Linux, but their time was too early. If they did it again now, I'm certain they would gain a respectable market share and be in a good position when Linux on the desktop takes off. Don't use WINE this time though Corel - make them native apps.
When I went to college, the hottest subject was IT and companies couldn't get enough IT trained people. These days if you go to college the hottest subject is law and companies can't get enough lawyers to sue the crap out of other companies. Hmmmm. I think I'm in the wrong profession.
Seriously, with approximately sixty billion dollars in the bank, exactly what prevents M$ from producing a secure OS ?
Haven't you heard? They don't agree to the terms of the GPL.
