you often don't *have* an afternoon to sit and write documentation
Exactly !!!
I am a huge fan of documentation... it is one of the first things I look for when doing work on unfamiliar equipment, and I make it myself whenever I am alloted the time to do it. Sadly, that time is not always provided.
Chris Carter's Millenium ranks in my top 10 list of best Sci-Fi shows that I have seen. Lance Henriksen does an incredible job and the show had some of most powerful moments I have ever seen on any type of screen (the plague scene where Lance takes his daughter and his wife up to a cabin in the woods to wait it out - still send shivers down my body).
so basically, WTF!
As an institutional Windows SysAdmin, I don't have to activate my Windows XP.
The version of the OS I get to install on our corporate machines (or push out to our corporate machines) does not require activation.
whereas I have several hundred high school aged children using Terminal Services to run everything they need at school on a dual PIII 1.2ghz machine with 2Gb of RAM and LVD SCSI disk (U320) and it runs just fine
As a high school network administrator, I can tell you I am pleased when students bring me items that have escaped me and show me errors in my security layout.
The last one who did got a summer job for two years and is now in a Comp Sci program at university (he will be working with us again this summer).
A scary add-on to that might be my surgery a year ago, where, within minutes of my coming out from the effects of the versid and assorted knockout drugs, a nurse tried to get me to sign a document.
I complained that I couldn't focus well enough to read the words and she just pointed at where I should sign. I was finally saved by a friend of mine who walked into recovery in time to see her holding the pen in my hand and encouraging me to sign.
He shooed her off and oddly enough, no one every came back with to get my signature on whatever document that was.
I work for a school district and I have a lab of students runing Autocad without being Admins... we also *shudder* use Quickbooks for local school accounting and my secretaries certainly do not run as Admins.
I worked for a pulp and paper mill as a summer student one year.
Coming from $8 / hour dishwashing jobs, the $22 / hour job moving lumber around and sweeping up woodchips was heavenly.
I worked dilligently the first week but was taken aside by my manager to let me know that I was making the regular guys look bad and I should really slow down.
It was quite disillusioning.
Of course, now, 10 years later, 2/3 of those workers have been let go as the mill has sold off nonprofitable equipment due to high labour costs. I wonder how many of those guys would still have their jobs if they had strived for a higher level of performance?
d'oh!!!!
so that would be a paradigm shift that helps develop synergy and foster an environment of positive collegiality utlizing a scalable digital framework powered by robust ecommerce web-enabled applications?
I get about 4 and a half hours of real use time out of the battery in my Dell Latitude D500. When I get the second battery installed, that should jump to 8 hours. Being able to do a full business day of computing without plugging my laptop into anything, is a nice thing.
I hear you on some older laptops though. My last Inspiron got a mere 30 minutes of battery life - one of the reasons for the move.
ah!! my eyes!! they burn!!!!
It is a shame that I laxk points to spend on your comment.
host that video file on the P2P networks and see what happens to you ! *smile*

Exactly ! ... I was very disappointed when that show died before it could wrap itself up.

Working in a school district, I can tell you that with one exception, all the teachers using OSX are completely unaware of many things, this included.
at 45USD a year, I think I will pass on that ...
umm... I'm pretty sure that is spelled: EVAR!!
*raises hand*

Not everyone is like the people you ran into.
I am pretty sure that butt apples are bad.
point made ... it certainly could have been worse.

hey ... as long as this paradigm shift helps develop synergy and foster an environment of positive collegiality utlizing a digital framework, I'm in.
I just read that when the link came back up for me. *sigh* They could at least try one would think.
