It is my understanding that some of the HD broadcasts are in 1080i but I am unaware of any broadcast signal in 1080p. I also concur that most boxes do not support 1080p. My DirecTV DVR can only handle 1080i and I do have a 1080p 61" rear projection that will upscale it to 1080p. However to my knowledge the only true 1080p sources at this time are BluRay and HD-DVD and the PS3 (bluray) is included as well.
From my experince, and I did quite a bit of viewing before I bought my TV, even if you are not sitting close enough to pick up every detail of the 1080p or even 1080i source the picture quality of the upscaled 480/720 sources is much better especially on the very large rear projections. I drug my feet for several years before buying a big screen HD TV because so many broadcasts are still in SD. However I have no regrets, although SD isn't anywhere near the quality of HD, with a good digital feed it is still very watchable even stretched to wide screen mode.
I am by no means an expert and all I am telling you is my own personal viewing experience.
Its like the guy that has two cars. He has a 1976 Volvo with 300,000 miles that runs fine and gets him from A to B in a reasonable manner. He drives this Volvo to work, to run errands, and it performs its job routinely without fail. When he wants to go out run 150 mph down the autobahn he takes out his Ferrari instead. Just because something is old and not efficient for a one task doesn't mean it still isn't efficient for what it was designed.
Would I develop alot of new apps in COBOL? Probably not but that doesn't mean that every line of COBOL needs to be converted. COBOL for business transaction oriented apps, especially batch applications, is quite sufficient. It is easy to learn, easy to maintain when documented, and portable.
I had a similar problem. After long days in front of the screen my eyes would just involuntarily lose focus. My vision was fine except after long days in front of a computer screen but I was beginning to get distressed so I went to the eye doctor. I was told it was a matter of my eye muscles getting locked in because I wasn't looking away from the screen and forcing them to refocus on something more distant. The solution was to periodically look away for 15 seconds and focus on something farther away.
Outside of pure Linux is there any certification for just Apache or good training? We are switching from IIS and our server admin barely knows Apache or Linux. We will be using Apache on a Netware box.
Do I need any special equipment for phishing on Linux or will my fly rod setup be ok? Are there any type of limits as far as size and number of phish? What type of license is needed and is it more expensive if I phish from a Windows OS? And are there any local guides that could help me find where the best phishing might be?
As I understand it "mook" has been used as a slur to describe a foolish person of certain racial descent.
Although a somewhat humorous attempt trying to combine magazine and book you would think O'Reilly would be smart enough to avoid a potential inflammatory word.
Perhaps instead of Tony being a stupid mook it is O'Reilly marketing that is foolish?
A professor once explained grades to me as the following:
Grades are nothing more than letters on a piece of paper. 10 years from now the knowledge you gained in any given class is more important than the letter grade that you received. She was very tough and it was difficult at best to earn an A in any of her classes but I learned more in her classes than in any other. I hated her at the time but 10 years later....I realize she is correct.
College always appeared to me to be a self study program with bureaucracy and social events. As in most endeavors in life you get back something equal to the effort that you put in. If you go simply to obtain the paper then that is easy enough to do but if you want something more all you have to do is put in the work. Unfortunately no one is going to make you do it.
This theory would explain why I apparently obtained a beer belly in college!
Some how the survey left off the number one reason for project failure. The use of MS project should be by far the number one reason. PMs spend half the project timeline trying to simply enter the plan by then the project is too far gone to be saved.
On a more serious note how many companies actually plan backwards? In other words this is the budget make the plan fit or else!!!!! These projects are doomed to fail!
One of the largest problems that new team leads have is transitioning from the person being asked to do the work to the one having to delegate. Often the new lead compensates for a project running behind by trying to do the work himself. This only leads to more stess, a mismanaged project and falling further behind. As far as traits there are many and few people have them all. Recognize your strengths and work those to your advantage. In general a good team lead can organize well, set goals, create plans to obtain those goals, monitor progress, motivate the team members, and most importantly can clear roadblocks so team members can focus on the task at hand. One other handy note is to not be afraid of failure. Failures will happen but what makes a truly great leader is one that accepts responsibility for the failure and helps the team bounce back.

They may not be scientist but perhaps they slept at a Holiday Inn the night before the show.

Does that mean Al Gore will ultimately go to prison since he invented the whole internet in the first place?
