  1. Re: Dell OptiPlex on Building Quieter Computers · · Score: 1

I worked on nothing but Poweredge 4800's for 3 weeks straight, 8-10hrs a day. I know what you mean about loud, the 4800 has NINE fans! They also give off ALOT of heat, it didn't help most of them where in janitors closets.

  2. It's not Napsters fault on Canadian Recording Industry Claims Drop in Sales · · Score: 1

.... that there really wasn't alot of *good, worth money* cd's released lately. Think about it, half the songs that are the top of the charts are still from the end of last year. And the ones that they replaced where over 6 months old aswell. IMHO there just isn't enough cd's or even songs being released that are worth the 10 second download, let alot close to $30 after tax.

Check out Nortons ghost... I've used at a several different jobs, and I must say it's quit easy and painless. I can't remember if it does multiple cd's, but I can't see your base install being over 700-800mb. And ghost does quit well and compressing everything. I think the highest I've seen was about a gig, and it took something like 17 minutes to "install" on a 16x or 24x cdrom.

  6. Two things.... on Getting Free Cable From Cable Modem? · · Score: 2

One it's illegal :) Two, check the line coming into the house for a silver tube like thing.... Remove it a connect the two cables from it together. Voila, you should have all the channles that don't need subscribing to, or a box to descramble.... That silver thing is a filter that blocks a large range of frequincies that the modem itself doesn't use. ***Disclamer, that wasn't me typing this, it was the little green man that visits me every 3rd friday after each 2nd sunday.

I know that WinACE also installs WebHancer, actually it won't run until you install WebHancer. Although after it's installed you can remove it via Add/Remove.... as far as I know it doesn't leave bits behind to still spy.

The proxy client is only for programs that don't support http-proxy or socks.

  11. Last few bites on Wrapster Allows Napster To Distribute Any File · · Score: 2

What about the bug in napster that always seems to stop a file transfer with 500-600 bytes to go?

It's allright for mp3's because all you loose is the ID3 tag... But what about a zip, or self-extracting exe?

If you loose the last few bites of a zip, that where the headers are stored, listing all the files in the archive.

    Anyone else think of that?

  12. Price increase on New DNS Agreement Announcement · · Score: 1

If you take a look at h ttp://www.ntia.doc.gov/ntiahome/domainname/agreeme nts/nsi-registry-agreement.htm. And scroll down to "Agreements" point 20, you will see this paragraph:

    20. Price for Registry Services. The price(s) to accredited registrars for entering initial and renewal SLD registrations into the registry database and for transferring a SLD registration from one accredited registrar to another will be as set forth in Section 5 of Appendix B, Registrar License and Agreement. These prices shall be increased through an amendment to this Agreement as approved by ICANN and NSI, such approval not to be unreasonably withheld, to reflect demonstrated increases in the net costs of operating the registry arising from (1) ICANN policies adopted after the date of this Agreement, or (2) legislation specifically applicable to the provision of Registry Services adopted after the date of this Agreement, to ensure that NSI recovers such costs and a reasonable profit thereon; provided that such increases exceed any reductions in costs arising from (1) or (2) above.

It basically states that if NSI and ICANN feel they aren't makeing enough money, they can raise the prices accordingly.... Does anyone else see a problem with this?

  13. Re:I'm not dead yet! on Death Knell for OS/2 Client · · Score: 1

In fact that is one of the reasons why I choose that particular bank. Just will not trust my money with a bank that uses any microsoft products.

I use the Credit Union (also in Canada), they used to use Os/2 and recently spent alot of (my) money to switch over to an NT based system. Just this morning I went in and the tellers machine constantly kept freezing, and problem that they never had until they switched to NT.
Not trying to be a troll here, but Os/2 is designed more towards the business side of things wich IMHO is why they never really tried to market it as a desktop OS.
