  1. Just Great... on RFID License Plates in the UK · · Score: 4, Insightful

A key benefit of the e-Plate is that the tag provides an encrypted and secure ID code which is registered in the UK Ministry of Transport's vehicle database. This code prevents tampering, cloning, or other forms of fraud that can currently happen with camera-based systems. Additionally, the e-Plate is designed to shatter if anyone tries to remove or otherwise tamper with it, and the tag can be programmed to transmit a warning if any attempt is made to dislodge the plate.

They said that for DVD encryption too, but look where that got us. Eventually, someone, somewhere will find a way to tamper with it and the best the government will be able to do is, like always, use heavy fines to curb the spread, but it will be futile, just like it was with DVD encryption.

I bet I'll have the plate transmit "YHBT" within two years.

    When will they learn?

  2. through my eyes on Infinium Labs Threatens Gaming News Site · · Score: -1, Informative

I was one of the first people hired in 2001 to work on the Infinium console, I have a degree in macroscale design and was therefore assigned mostly to design them the "outside" look as they called it. We didn't really do much work back then, my co-worker Mark and I played around with maya and lightwave, trying to figure out how to get it to look like the sketches wanted it to, and another person, whose name escapes me right now, was there to make sure the structure and materials were as they were supposed to be. Eventually the company (well, the Texas division anyway) got smaller and smaller until only some 20 people were left, at which point Mark and I realized this was obviously going nowhere and quit. We didn't look back

So this is basically Infinium as I saw it. And what I saw wasn't pretty, but what will they do now, sue me?

  3. geeks at work! on Price-Fixing Settlement Checks in the Mail · · Score: -1, Offtopic

Hi, I'm new to SlashDot so I hope I'm not doing anything wrong

I just wanted to say it's great that how the people won out this time against the corporational greed of the RIAA, no doubt there some geeks working in the background, and although we'll never know their names let's take a minute and think about how much worse we'd be if it weren't for them and what _WE_ can do today to improve the lives of our fellow humans.

    With love,
