i have to call bullshit on that one Ben. nothing is stopping you from helping out those less fortunate than yourself. i only have a problem with it when it is forced on me with an implicit threat of violence. sure it sounds extreme, but think about it. what happens to those who refuse to comply...?
canadian healthcare is what it is. how 'good' it is it depends on your angle. if you are looking out for yourself only (i'm not criticizing that at all), it is not good. it is designed to provide the best possible care for everyone, and overall, it does that better than the US system. the downside is that it is inefficient, and does not meet it's goals for the reasons you stated. i prefer the us system myself.
this lawsuit IS ridonkuless. it is based on people not being able to change jobs. if intelluctual property is stolen that is another issue (and should be addressed accordingly), but to say that former moto employees can't go work for intel is craziness.
sure, the BeOS isn't a revolutionary OS, but it does take the best proven technologies and integrates them for multimedia like no other OS can claim, including linux. i'm not dissing linux, in fact i like it a lot, but for multimedia, it can't compare to BeOS. and for collective unity...well, i know your heart is in the right place, but let's not confuse things here. people cooperating together on something like linux is a powerful thing, and the results have been impressive. but to say that it will create a huge collective society where everything is shared...i don't buy it (pun absolutely intended)
chuck i think the real problem here is that the patent itself was issued. i'm assuming that you jumped on this without knowing the full story, because mp3.com doesn't even sell downloadable music...it is all free to download. they do sell CDs though. i hate state-sponsered theft as much as you do and i'm a proponent of objectivism. but do you think Hank Rearden would've paid a license for the ability to SELL his metal to customers...?
use the one you like the most. i betcha it'll work out just fine. i promise.
:-)
what about noah's ark? if that isn't proof i don't know what is....sheesh.
settle down beavis, it is a joke.

i bet it wouldn't be so bad if it were about people leaving MS to go work at Redhat, would it?

in the spirit that it was intended, this posting is funny as hell
you get what someone has paid for...
maybe they'll breathe some life back into the PPC chip for PCs and there will be a market for lower cost workstations. i hope so. competition is good.
