Many JVMs have a translation step that converts Java bytecode to some internal format before executing it. That Google chose to make this implementation detail public should not confuse anyone.
Offtopic, really? Because that's what the OP is worried about, except instead of hammers and saws it's software and instead of maiming people the potential damages are harder to ascertain.
Hi, I'm a hobbyist, I make hammers and saws, except I'm not very good at this hobby, but I give the hammers and saws away for free so when they break and maim people I'm in the clear because I didn't charge them anything?
The topic is XP's antiquated graphics architecture. One example of that is XP's inability to provide hardware-accelerated font-rendering for applications. Another is XP's atrocious graphics in portrait mode. All the goodies borne from the new graphics architecture point to Microsoft's decision to rewrite major parts of XP instead of pushing out more service packs being the right one.
XP's graphics handling is really crappy compared to 7 and Vista, so this is no surprise. Flip an LCD to portrait mode in XP, then try to turn on vsync because horizontal tearing just became vertical tearing. Can't be done.
So if you trusted a cheap Made in China Facebook-in-a-matchbox server more than a billion dollar US company and were worried that Facebook employees would blackmail you with your photos then it might make sense? I'm sorry but I'm just not seeing it.
You are going to trust your personal information on a 10$ device that's always connected to the Internet? But let's say it becomes a success. How much would it cost to teach 100 million people how to put their private information on their own web server securely? Maybe a 10$ device is not so cheap after all.
Recognizing the reality for what it is without making a value judgement one way or another is now grounds for counseling?
What next, not believing in God is grounds for re-education?
Where does the notion that a crappy business app is acceptable come from? If you bought a crappy game then you have a problem. If you have to use a crappy business application then not only do you have a problem, your employer has a problem too.
Explorer doesn't even have a split-pane mode that I can find
Just Control-Doubleclick a folder and it opens in a new Explorer window. From a little demonstration video that I saw, I can say that two Explorer windows are better than one split view Dolphin window.
Ask yourself; what can be accomplished with a cookie that can't be accomplished using alternative mechanisms.
Let's use URL rewriting. My friend shares a photo from their private album with me, I post a link to it on Twitter and the next thing I know half the world has my session id.
Unless I'm tragically mistaken, your link refers to Amazon starting to offer hosted MySQL servers. It doesn't mean that Amazon runs their own business on MySQL or that their MySQL offering scales from a simple website to Google levels automatically. It's just single MySQL servers that you can rent.

Does this exploit bypass UAC in 7 and Vista?

Create a searchable distributed bittorrent style network on which people share whatever information they want to make public.
So basically Facebook but even slower because it has to fetch every little bit of information from unreliable home servers?
Why would you take the responsibility to collect, maintain and secure your own data when Facebook does it for you, free?
Just run the tests yourself instead of speculating.
We tried that before, and it sucked so much we welcomed flash with open arms afterwards.
???
Windows Media Player plugin, Quicktime plugin, Real Media plugin, and I have a feeling I'm missing at least one other also-ran.

You forgot a few tests: isCompassHalfBroken(), isCompassReallySlow(), isCompassSometimesWildlyInaccurate(), isCompassJustAPieceOfCrap().
Why can't the open source movement pool their money to buy all the rights to h264 and set it free?
Or maybe email should just work like a normal person would expect it to work?
A state-of-the-art interface is a modern IMAP mail client.
Let me guess, Pine?
Because Newzbin have set up their business such that the easier it is for their users to pirate stuff the more they get paid.

That may be, but how much is there still to go and how long is it going to take to catch-up to where h264 is today?
Hahah, so the young one was fast becoming as stupid as his old man!

No, it would piss me off and make me leave the service. Not a bad thing if the service was geared for the nerd niche.
