Another is XP's atrocious graphics in portrait mode. All the goodies borne from the new graphics architecture point to Microsoft's decision to rewrite major parts of XP instead of pushing out more service packs being the right one.
XP's graphics handling is really crappy compared to 7 and Vista, so this is no surprise. Flip an LCD to portrait mode in XP, then try to turn on vsync because horizontal tearing just became vertical tearing. Can't be done.
So if you trusted a cheap Made in China Facebook-in-a-matchbox server more than a billion dollar US company and were worried that Facebook employees would blackmail you with your photos then it might make sense? I'm sorry but I'm just not seeing it.
You are going to trust your personal information on a 10$ device that's always connected to the Internet? But let's say it becomes a success. How much would it cost to teach 100 million people how to put their private information on their own web server securely? Maybe a 10$ device is not so cheap after all.

Where does the notion that a crappy business app is acceptable come from? If you bought a crappy game then you have a problem. If you have to use a crappy business application then not only do you have a problem, your employer has a problem too.
Explorer doesn't even have a split-pane mode that I can find
Just Control-Doubleclick a folder and it opens in a new Explorer window. From a little demonstration video that I saw, I can say that two Explorer windows are better than one split view Dolphin window.
Ask yourself; what can be accomplished with a cookie that can't be accomplished using alternative mechanisms.

Unless I'm tragically mistaken, your link refers to Amazon starting to offer hosted MySQL servers. It doesn't mean that Amazon runs their own business on MySQL or that their MySQL offering scales from a simple website to Google levels automatically. It's just single MySQL servers that you can rent.

Create a searchable distributed bittorrent style network on which people share whatever information they want to make public.

Why would you take the responsibility to collect, maintain and secure your own data when Facebook does it for you, free?
