  1. It should be: 4+3+2=x+2 (Solve for x) on US Students Struggle With Understanding of the 'Equal' Sign · · Score: 5, Insightful

It should be: 4+3+2=x+2 (Solve for x) I don't see the point in substituting parenthesis for a variable. It just makes it more confusing for everyone.

  2. Duplex mode? on Ubuntu Download Speeds Beat Windows XP's · · Score: 1

Does he have the card in full duplex in windows? If he is running half in windows and full in linux, that might do it :)

  3. Microsoft already has another platform for games on Is Windows 7 Faster Or Just Smarter? · · Score: 2

If linux ends up being the desktop standard, kids will start trying to hack it to install games too. I don't see the point either.

  9. Very Painful software on Building Online Stores with osCommerce · · Score: 2, Insightful

In the last month I have downloaded this software and spent countless hours building it from scratch. There is no template management system and everything is a mix of PHP and HTML. Every php file is a HUUUUGE collection of nested IF/THEN/ELSE's. I can't even imagine what the programmers were thinking. The image caching was also corrupting the images randomly. If you "purchase" a template like i did, its actually all the PHP files just rewritten. I ended up just scrapping it and moving over to x-cart last week. Yeah it set me back $400 but It must have 100x more features and also has 100x less headaches. It also uses smarty templates.

  10. You guys might be missing the point on Network-Monitoring Data Put to Music · · Score: 2, Interesting

I think the point of converting logs to music is the human ear is better at picking up patterns than a pair of eyes. If you hear a melody in the beginning of the day, and hear that same melody at the end of the day you will recognize it. A melody could be 200 lines of sequential log. I doubt someone could visually remember 200 lines of log.

I think this is an excellent idea.

I believe our bathroom here would beg to differ on the positive effects of coffee.

Did you happen to look at the translucent imac laptop? Thats the ugliest laptop of them all. Besides, what would you rather have.. something that looks pretty or something that performs faster and saves you time.

  14. If Microsoft cared about SPAM... on Microsoft Releases 'Caller-ID For Email' Specs · · Score: 4, Insightful

They would have allowed a user to disable a the javascript popup function in the browser. Instead we have to rely on bandaids like googles toolbar to block popups from websites.
