Might want to check your numbers again. Bush ran up more debt that every President before him COMBINED. He came in with around $4 Trillion in debt and left with around $12 Trillion in debt. Obama has a long ways to go before he gets into Bush territory. In what fucking fantasy land did Iraq and Afghanistan cost $100 Billion? Shit we flew $125 Billion in cash in on pallets to hand out to contractors, most of that money is completely unaccounted for.

I just finished setting up our email retention system, which took a grand total of 3 months from the initial inquiry until complete date. Now I work for a smaller, more agile organization than the Whitehouse, but that doesn't mean that it should take 32x as long for them to complete a similar task. To any technical person it is painfully obvious that this was the intended results of their actions, email retention isn't that hard.

I manage the spam firewall where I work, and I have seen a significant drop this month vs last month. In October we processed 20,000-30,000 emails a day, averaging near 25,000. In the month of November, we have only exceeded 20,000 in a day once, with most days falling short of 15,000. This months average is closer to what it was during the summer, we had seen the increase to around 25,000/day during August/September.

Doesn't sound that different than Quickbooks, Quicken, CCH, Lacert, etc. Quickbooks 2005 ocassionally breaks every other version of QB when you install it, Intuit says it has been a known issue for over a year and there is no fix... perfect solution for accountants who need every version of Quickbooks because their clients don't upgrade. Quicken 05 makes you uninstall every prior version, but you can get around it by "pushing" the application down. CCH... don't even get me started on their software. Lacert I don't know about, but we just bought a firm that uses so give me a couple of weeks and I am sure I will know something. A real Linux financial suite is the only reason we can't make the switch.

I work for a small firm, 100 people or so across 3 offices which are relatively close, about to add another 20-40 people. We are in a similiar position, because our old PBX system won't handle that many users without some upgrades, which we don't want to do because it is reaching the end of its lifecycle. We did a little looking around, and suprisingly the Cisco Call Manager Express was the best priced solution for us. The only way we could beat their price was going with an IP PBX system instead of a VOIP solution. They were running a promo, so there was a 39% discount from the list price on all hardware. Unfortunately, the owners decided to hold off on the upgrade and bandaid our system until late next year because we will be moving into a new building and merging two of the offices. We couldn't get a quote from Avaya, their rep never called us back, and both 3com dealers we spoke with had recently quit selling 3com. I can tell you not to go with Nortel, their solution was over 1.5x that of the Cisco solution.

Yes, it still synchronizes, but the problem doesn't go away. Well, the address book one goes away if you do that. But the profile that will not synch still doesn't synch, and the profiles that get dupe calendar entries keep getting dupes. The only solution I found for that is to backup the handheld, whipe it clean, clear out the dupes in GroupWise, then resynch, and restore the autotext/favorites etc from backup.

  15. I hate the Blackberry on The Complete History of RIM · · Score: 2, Insightful

I work for a mid-sized CPA firm, and I have to manage our Blackberries. I have had more problems with them than any other handheld. From parts of the address book being completely lost, both on the handheld and in Groupwise, to duplicated calendar entries, to some accounts simply refusing to synchronize. There tech-support is a shame, every time I call I get the same answer, "Delete the RIM folder under application data." We told our Partners not to get them, but they just had to have them because "everyone else has them so they must work" we showed the examples of people having problems with them, but "that must be isolated." Now since they don't work, it must be GroupWise's fault because so-and-so uses Outlook and it works fine. If you look at the Blackberry Forums there are plenty of Outlook users having issues, and deleting the Outlook profile seems to be the fix-all, thats a pain when you consider 4,000 person address books and 2000 calendar entries. Funny though, one Partner decided to go with the Treo, and I have never had to work on it since he got it a year and a half ago.
