Will Apple stay the dual-processor course when they move to Intel?
Don't know Apple has not told us anything about what their new computers are going to have other than Intel chips...
That notwithstanding, I think they will use what ever will give them the best performance. I don't think they will ues anything that will hurt their sales...
Keep in mind that since OS X is built for dp on the PPC I would guess they will compile the Intel version to also be ready for dp. as well as all the Apple apps. ie iTunes, iLife, iWork, iETC...
cheers.
--I have no problem with the ads the FIRST time I watch a DVD. But when I have to sit through the ads for a lame movie that came out six months ago EVERY FSCKing time I want to watch MY DVD, I get a bit peeved.
This is why I will continue to rip and re-burn my movies.
--yes... but in XP it leaves 1.0 in the add/remove progs, and it caused general unruliness on my machine
YMMV
I love Firefox and All things Mozilla...-- I'd just like to see a cleaner upgrade is all...
There are still (bugs or issues) there. Yes, I got the update button, and it downloaded and tried to install, but it does not upgrade 1.0 it just installs 1.0.1 -- You need to UNINSTALL 1.0 THEN install 1.0.1
but there is yet no AutoUpdate -- or am I missing something?
What is sad is that the Guy who runs our local indy music store Gave me 6 (six) cd's full of MP3s when I asked him "what new stuff do you have?"
He said he just down loads stuff like every one else because the RIAA only cares about themselves not the industry (the whole chain, from artists to retailer) as a whole...
I just laughed... then loaded them onto my new ipod.
End it already... the only killer app is the fact that Windows is PRE-installed on your moms desktop.
There will NEVER be a mass migration away from windows as long as MS hold a monopoly on Dell, HP et al.'s default configurations.
Now, IF my mom is given an option at the time of ordering or IF it just comes with FOSS pre-installed then she might use it. How many NON-GEEKS ever bother to buy an anti-virus? No they mostly use the 90 day free trial and then disable the warning that their defs are out of date.
Your mom will never migrate unless you do it for her.
A computer is a tool.
A car is a mode of transport. -- who changes any bit if the engine (other than ricers?)
Turn it on and they just want it to work. -- your mom could care less what is running it as long as it gets her where sh needs to be.
Get Dell to offer a (Suse, Fedora, etc) desktop for less money and then people will start creeping toward the FOSS
perhaps... You have a point proved by Verstoppen in 2002, Most passes in the season, worst car on the grid. had no chance of doing anything...
now on the oderhand... Jacques in the last 4 seasons great driver in crap car did NOTHING... shit for points.
drivers are as important as the car but you have to have both...
But would anyone deny that Schumi (who I hate) is THE best driver ever? and that the Ferrari ir the bets car on the track?
Driver and car MUST be as one...
of course I could be wrong...
Spammy goodness!!! I love using it to train TBird to filter out and watch those numbers of unread messages in my Junk folder climb like Tenzig Norgay...
To stop spam we need to find that 0.001 % of people who freaking respond and make it profitable... Who the hell are these people and why have they not been rounded up and sent to ROOM 101 ?!!? I ask you WHY!!!??? oh the humainty...
okay, so if MD5 has issues that can now be explioted, or at least tampered with, is it time for a new checksum?
being clueless in this respect can we call it MD6?
First, I have an ipod, so yes I am kind of locked into apple's little world. and I dont have OGG playback.
But is it better? --you had to smack it on your desk to get it to reboot-- "This will not do"
I've had only one or two problems in the year of owning my ipod and your review does not bode well for the rio.
Linux useability may be high on _your_ list, but since I am locked into windows, for reasons that are of no import, nothing you give in your review tell me about what I want to know.
--How is battery life overall?
--How is the interface?
--Sound quality?
Open standards are VERY GOOD. (go OGG!!) but, FOR ME, not enough to even bother trying it without more info.
Wait, they have had this since 1994 and are just now getting around to filing?
damn, could they have had to wait this long to ensure as many people as possible used this tech to ensure lots of lawsuits, and a high likelyhood of cashflow?
okay having just turned in my LOTR cred... Who is this Tom Bombadil? but you LOTR geeks and Tolken's dense writing are a bit too much for me could you dumb it down a bit for me and explain why he is important....
I got that he may be an immortal or something.... help?
Let's hope the Beeb's live streaming media setup can cope with the mother of all Slashdottings!"
Has anyone thought to warn them? I'd like to get a chance to hear it without our taking out the beebs servers...
it might be nice send them a noth warning them they... might... have some heavy traffic that day...
just a thought.
standard... rather than as a $50 option.
plus having to buy a new key and mouse.
I was thinking that, for something this sexy, go for distance. The bluetooth adapter, key and mouse should all be standard not an add on.
St Ive gave us the LCD as standard, why stick with wires?
They must have some truly awesome heat dissipation setup. I'm sure it does blow hot air like an old popcorn popper, but so what? as long as St. Ive says it won't affect the lifetime of the iMac, who cares.
it is sleek and sexy... but the key and mouse should have been wireless bluetooth...
Hardware firewall... sorry but I don't trust anyone... why should I trust MS... in all reality their firewall may be good or bad, but what matters is that EVERY script kiddy on the planet is going to be gunning for every SP2 firewall they can find..
don't just walk away... RUN.
what you are paying for is the LCD and SUPERDRIVE... but you are right there is not much difference in Mhz RAM etc.
But the LCD is where the cost comes into effect oh and that damn SUPERDRIVE -- please note not available on the ibook.
thank you for your support.
Okay so I've just stolen your laptop and formatted it and installed (anything) on it... Where's you LoJack now?
I fear software solutions will always fail, be weak at this point. A hardware option would seem to be better, no?
Yes it will work when a petty theif steals your baby, but not for anyone with an IQ over 105.
Good to know they are hiring!!!

Capt'n I'm rerouting the .... Wait never mind it did it all by itself....
Okay all fixed. I guess you don't need me anymore, I'll just go and get drunk in the corner.
Linux is not that easy to use
Not quite... Linux is VERY easy to use... it gets tricky when trying to tweak, twist, configure, or get otherwise midieval...
Using a properly configured box is easy, "grandma click this thing for the internet, and here for your email" -- see easy!
but you are half correct, Support is the goldmine.
Control, control, you must learn control...
1) -- You did not watch the ads. in so doing you have taken revenue away from me, my family and our porche...
2) you did not watch the show in the manner which I THE LORD MPAA have deemed the only one worthy
3) You are thinking... STOP IT!! I will tell you how to think and what to watch...
now go... and download no more.
Dear MPAA

iSearch and/or the Software may, ... remove, disable or render inoperative other adware programs resident on your computer,
... So if I am reading this correctly they DO admit to being adware...
ya know, I think you're right... I like the term assware
This is why MS offers a slimer (striped down) version of XP in SE Asia; to help lower even farther the TCO.
Windows is always going to be the better choice because.....
Now, I'm going to go finish that Gentoo install I'm working on...
