Give them some Pratchett, Lloyd Alexander, Brian Jaques et al, but don't forget: -- C. S. Lewis to butter them up for a bit of future religious indoctrination. -- George Orwell (1984 in particular) to show them how the world really works. and some.. -- Philip K. Dick to fuck them up, send them slowly insane and introduce them to the wacky world of curious drugs with all sorts of exotic side-effects...

  3. Re:Pay teachers more on Have Mathematics Exams Become Easier? · · Score: 1

Agreed entirely. There's a perception in the UK that teaching is far from a serious career, particularly in subjects such as maths and physical sciences where pay is extremely low relative to industry or finance. The phrase "Those that can, do. Those that can't, teach." seems to have become embedded in the national psyche. The UK is storing up serious problems for the future; devaluation of the teaching profession largely amounts to devaluation of the competitiveness of the next generation once they reach working age, and arguably of society itself, to some extent. Short-term political cost-cutting should have no place in education.

In what way has revenge ever been shown to be usually good for society?

'good dialog (very hard), a good story (medium hard), and a proper anticipation of the player's response (virtually impossible)'

the first two can help result in the last! check 'betrayal at krondor'.. killer dialog, killer story, and the combination of the two made the player's response automatic! the gaming equivalent of a novel you can't put down..

  6. Re:Mana, FF6 kick ass. on Neverwinter Nights 2 Officially Announced · · Score: 1

no way! ff7, and all its predecessors, were dependent purely on imagination, a storyline, the *fantasy* part of the very name.

skills and abilities were always a secondary consideration, as was the whole combat system. the fighty bits were designed to be *just challenging enough* to advance the story further (for story, read fantasy, tale, experience).

which character had what *combat* skill was almost irrelevant. as long as barret / vincent had guns, cloud had a sword and they were all visually consistent.. that's what mattered. materia? fire 3? so what?
