uhhhh... hemp is marijuana. The strain used for cloth was a hermaphroditic self-pollenizer so it wasn't much good to smoke (you need virgin female flowers to get high)... but it is the same plant. And most of the senators that voted to outlaw the "devil-weed marijuana" had no idea that it was the same thing as hemp, which is, of course, the material used for the paper of the Constitution and the cloth of the first American flag.
Now that the idea is out there (viruses spawning through email), expect to see a lot of this in the future. Already, two Melissa "clones" have started to spread.
The only real solution for now is to stop using the braindead Microsoft products that make this kind of thing possible.
I don't know about 2.1 but the Debian 2.0 CD IS bootable! And even if your bios doesn't support booting from the CD you can boot Win95 to "Command prompt only" (make sure you have the real-mode CD-ROM drivers load in autoexec.bat), go to the Install directory on the CD and execute boot.bat... voila!
The second to last line of your rant contrasts so ironically with your sig.

I don't know why so many have flamed him so badly but I think he's been doing a great job. We have lost a good spokesman. Oh well, take your well deserved rest Eric. I hope to see some more good code from you now that you have time. .
That's strange... I play Quake2 here at work for hours (good bandwidth, boring job;) twice a week on a Win95 machine and I don't think it's ever crashed on me. Not that I particularly like Windows or use it at home... but sometimes I think it's not entirely the OS's fault... maybe a driver? Of course, an OS that crashes just because of a buggy video driver is no kind of OS to bring home to mother:) .
It always seemed to me that Linus was half-joking about world-domination. I don't think he would be heartbroken if it never happened... it's just that he sees the potential. .
I loved it! Especially the last part... "people get systems they deserve" This is pro-linux all the way! Basically what it says is that linux is a mature and stable platform and the only reason left not to use it is because you're afraid to, chicken! heheheh...
"I couldn't even get PPP working in Debian or Red Hat" hrmmmm.... how strange. My first time with Linux was last September with Debian 2.0 . I got PPP to work before I knew what a shell script was... .
ahem... dear Burnsbert. Could you please explain to me why the incidence of rape in Scandinavian countries is among the lowest in the world? Consider the fact that "hardcore" pornography is available to anyone over the age of 13. Please don't insult our intelligence with your right-wing propaganda. Some of us have actually had a glimpse of life outside Smalltown U.S.A.
If the programmer observes some basic rules of portability it should compile on any architecture... Even sloppy code is usually trivial to port unless it's really huge ( or REALLY sloppy;) .
Just run dselect and use the FTP mode. It should go to the stable tree by default which is now Slink. Do an update (DO clear available list), select (choose nothing), and then install. It should automatically get and install everything which has been updated since 2.0. Warning: this will be a HUGE download. I install Slink by using my 2.0 cds and choosing the Basic package then I update that.... only then do I select more debs to fill out the system. .
Hey! I thought I was the only one who liked wm2! Nothing like having to recompile to change your preferences, heheheh. I think themes.org should have a wm2 section... instead of themes we could use diff patches;^) wmx is kinda cool too, with the root menu made up the contents of a directory instead of a text file... one thing I DO like about MSWindows. .
They'd only have to release the source to programs they made that use GPL'ed code. They could easily make a proprietary DE and window-manager without releasing any code at all. Of course, they would have to make the kernel code and GPL'ed utilities' code available, but big deal, it would likely be the same kernel/utilities you'd find on any Linux distro. You would probably be able to take M$ Linux and just ignore or uninstall the DE / window-manager and use Gnome and Window Maker or whatever. And this WOULD ensure hardware support by M$ ass-kissing vendors. As long as Microsoft has to compete on a level playing field I have no problems with them. Of course we will have to be on guard against their old dirty tricks, but the DOJ will surely be watching them closely too. And I would MUCH rather be doing support for MSLinux than Win95/98/NT !!! .
BWAHAHAHAHAHA! pant pant HAHAHAHAHAHA
That's the funniest post I've read in weeks...
Thanks ewhac!
Who would that be?
Not that I really pay attention to ZD stuff anymore... but I really appreciate their remarks on this test.
It is in the true spirit of journalism to shed light on the truth no matter how it affects your own interests.
